Simon Cowell's 'X Factor for DJs' scrapped
Simon Cowell's latest talent show project to find the next big DJ has been scrapped.
The X Factor mogul announced that he will be launching a new TV talent show which aims "to find the world's greatest DJs" back in January
The show was due to have a similar format to the X Factor, with DJs battling it out to secure fame and fortune. Speaking about the show, Cowell said that he wanted to jump on the electronic dance music explosion in the US, describing DJs as "the new rock stars".
Cowell was due to be working on the show via his own company SyCo and production group, Overbrook, which is owned by actor Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith.
However, Cowell's camp have now confirmed that the show is being pulled. "Syco and Overbrook decided not to proceed together on a DJ-competition show," a spokesperson told the New York Post.
One un-named source told the paper that production was stalled because Cowell wanted top billing in production credits, which the Smiths fought back over. Lawyers were reportedly unable to agree, so pulled the plug on the idea.
Simon Cowell is due to return to the UK version of the X Factor at some point before the end of the year. It has not been confirmed when or in what capacity yet. |
