So, where is all this helpful-post-applauding you're given to?

I see the context-delete feature is working well.

I see the lets-derail-this-topic-as-much-as-possible is working well too. Anyways, back to kicks, i've got nothing more to add.

Unless you are passionate about it, I would steer away from making uplifting trance (which if I am correct in recollection is what you want to make). Most of the people involved in that period of trance have moved on from it for 5 years now. I am not saying there isn't still some out there but it is dwindling quick. If it is what your heart wants to make, do it by all means. But I think many beginners (like myself 1.5 years ago) haven't heard much current edm and have a stereotype that uplifting = trance.

If you are open to making non-uplifting current trance, focus on 125-132 BPM. Songs about 5 - 7 minutes.

As for drum samples, don't look for 'trance' loops even if you are making trance. Those 140 bpm trance loops date a song immediately.

Use other genres drum samples, like electro, tech or even minimal. My guess is that the most current sounding drums, usually come from very currently dominant genres. I spent a lot of time looking for 'trance' samples, the type Arty might use, about a year ago and figured out that looking for electro or minimal samples are better. Some fit in a trance song very well. They are big, current and very stereo if you find the right one.

My guess is that because there is a much bigger market for electro right now, few making samples would waste their time on a genre like trance which is no longer that important. David Guetta is number 1 now. Ferry Corsten is almost out of the top 20. The paradigm shift has occurred. The trance days are probably over until it is cool to sample in like 15-25 years (just like it is hip to do a song with Fast Eddie of 'Acid Thunder' fame now)

Just some advice from som1 who wasted my first year making songs that sounded like they were made in 2001 and wouldn't have even good enough for that time period.

Firstly, up lifting trance is LITERALLY a part of me, I live and breathe the stuff. So there is no way that I will ever stop making it.

Secondly, I dont think that Uplifting trance is gaading out that much. It's certainly not as big as it was in the early 2000's but its still there, and there's still an audience.

And lastly, NEVER EVER MENTION DAVID GUETTA AGAIN ON THIS FORUM UNLESS URE HATING ON HIM!!! I live in Australia and all that people here listen to is this mainstream, bullshit, effortless music made by "artists" like david guetta. It pisses me off they think its good and yet they've never even heard of artists like AVB, Above and Beyond, etc.

Anyway, sorry about that, Im just a passionate David Guetta hater and I had to get that out. :P

If this was a prison yard and you didn't throw down during the race war, well it pains me to say this but i would have to maintain my reputation as a badass and penetrate you. I think you know what i'm saying.

I did say if you were passionate go for it.

But don't decide you don't like an artist and shut yourself off completely. I decided I didn't like SHM and then heard a set by a DJ and only liked ONE track. When I looked at the tracklist it turned out to be 'Heart is King' by Axwell. Also, Richard Butler recently posted David Guetta - Tytanium which I liked as well.

Above and Beyond really does it for me too. I don't like most vocal trance but I love A&B. They are probably my favorite major trance artist other than classic Paul Oakenfold (or Sasha & Digweed if some of their classic stuff is considered trance).

I have Vengeance 3 kicks and pretty much don't use them as they tend to all sound too woody and plastic, and things like the ssl eq's are unable to PROPERLY remedy this despite hundreds of hours of trying to scoop out the offending freqs, which tells me you need the right tones to start with.

Thanks Cryo - I'm going to check out those free club samples from WA. I already use thier minimal kick packs, but thus far nothing Earth shattering in them.

As yet I still have not found any kick samples (and no amount of layering or tweaking helps) to compare with certain kicks used by people like Michael Woods. Often his kicks take up very little room yet sound completely isolated and pristine in the mix with masses of thunk and impact. He and others I'm pretty sure make thier own kicks and use some tasty outboard to process them.

Awaits usual lame claim it must be down to me being a bad tweaker.

It isn't all down to tweaking and ability. If if were then we might as well say cooking is also not dependant upon having great ingredients, that we can use standard ingriedients and create whateever we wish as long as we know how to operate the oven.

you can hate on Guetta but you cant hate on the people who compose his tracks, writing a catchy song isn't exactly the easiest thing to do, im pretty sure I can go through everyones soundcloud and not remember a track yet I remembered his track titanium after one listen, and the one with nicki minaj also
