I'm glad I got to see Tenaglia at WMC and Bal en Blanc in these past four weeks. I was saying to myself, "one day he's going to shut it down" and look what happened.
Although Tenaglia has been hit or miss in Toronto, he's created some magical nights for me in my party career. Pacha NYC, Boa 2004, WMC 2005, he's up there.
Tenaglia has been such a pioneer and influence in the scene. The guy hung around the Paradise Garage for god sakes, running around with Larry Levan. Right there, that's instant credibility. DJs play classics like it's nothing, the guy actually lived, partied and DJed when those songs were current. Think about that.
He's seen DJs come and go. He's outlasted Junior Vasquez when they were going neck and neck for supremacy in New York City (and North America by default). A long list of guys have faded to obscurity over the years, but himself, David Morales, Victor Calderone, Frankie Knuckles, etc are the few guys left from that NYC era/old school.
Sure he'll play again. But will it be with the same intensity? Or will it be to pay the bills. Me and my crew figured something was up when Tenaglia didn't play Stereo after Bal en Blanc, everyone just assumed he would - he just closed Canada's biggest party, people were looking for an after party, he was in Montreal, how could he not play? But obviously something was up...
Here is a great Tenaglia article from 1996

It probably has something to do with his tinnitus.
