Normally I'd think "Oh well, Prydz will just play longer and the closer will have to deal" ... but since it's Arty, I'm sure his management would get a massive stick up their asses if he doesn't get his full set. -_-

Maybe Prydz will go on early? One can hope.

Contracts. They are oblied to play from 12:30 to 2:30, if technical issues happen is another story , you can see some artists playing extended sets but thats up to them they are not oblied in any form, if both venue and artist agree is sort of a vocal agreement.

In this case you won't see prydz playing more than 2:30, neither will see Arty because he is a douche.

get the dj high, he will play an extended set. The main reason why djs don't play longer is that the promoter doesn't give a fuck and wants to go home with his money. Djs that are high will play until they run out of drugs.

I got there 2 hours before he came on and the warm up guys played some generic house/tech house that was pretty basic. House rule is DJ's can't play bigger than the headliner, so these guys weren't playing anything spectacular. Absolutely no vocals at all and no elaborate melodies or big leads. Sometimes all you heard was a kick and off beat bass.

When Eric comes on he plays a 7 minute track that's one long pad. The rest of the set is broken down into three parts:

Part 1:

More of the same: warm up house.

Part 2:

More melodic stuff. This is where it gets interesting. He starts to play stuff with more melody. He plays a special bootleg of Pjanoo that reveals that famous riff for just one pass. The riff plays once and then is kind of muted for the rest of the track. A few tracks later Pjanoo is introduced again, but then it goes into

Part 3:

Mash Ups

Pjanoo is finally dropped and its a mashed up version with vocals from I don't know where. He plays a few other mash ups as well and ends the night with Mirage. He really seems to like 2night.

None of this is really surprising considering that he also builds up his track arrangements in the same way. 99% of DJs don't even bother to put in this kind of thought though, which is really a shame. What he did was not really difficult, and it just required a bit of forethought into his set.

Alot of DJ's do this. But many times it goes unnoticed by most people.
Not every DJ has their own anthems, if you'd like, and the fact that he's more of a popstar than a DJ anymore, who does an act that is in a constant state of being fine-tuned. It's no big secret that most of the really top deejay'z play the same set every night.

I don't know what the dj scene is like over in Colorado, but at least here in Oslo I've heard dj's play like the first two verses of a spoken house tune then to mash the rest of it with banging tribal track an hour later etc. A good dj will do stuff like that when they play live, keep the crowd on their toes abit. But as I said, can go unnoticed in clubs, where people (at least here) often go outside for cigarettes, coke in the bathroom etc. I guess bigger names glue them better to the floor.

Like L4C was saying before, you can hint at a track to come later on by dropping a small snippet of it before its going to be played in full, and that's what Eric did.

Anticipation is quite the drug.

Yes it is, if administered correctly.

If were doing a 2 hour set I would put a 10 or 15 minute intermission, in the set just because standing around for 2 hours straight is exhausting. At the end of the set I had been there for about 4-5 hours so my back was killing me. Ears were completely fine though thanks to proper ear protection.

What do you mean, "doing a 2 hour set"? as a dj? and you would put an intermission in the middle of your set?

or do you mean as an attendee, and you're just supporting/embellishing (sp?) the 'might go unnoticed in a club' statement i made?

ill be honest, i am in a great deal of pain right now and the way you worded the first sentence is really puzzling me right now. sorry for any incoherence.
