Well its different state to state I think. In Victoria, you have learner's permit(Ls), probationary license(Ps) and full license. On your Ls you need someone with a full license in the passenger seat. You have to have it for 2 years before you can go for your Ps, which you need to be at least 18 to have. Then you can drive on your own, but still no drinking. You need your Ps for 3 years, then you can go for you full license. On your full license you can have a couple of drinks and still drive. I'm 20, but only got my Ls at the beggining of last year I can go for my Ps whenever I want, I just need practise!!
