LOL It's tough, but I'll admit to lovin' happycore in my younger days and even worse, Bang!'s Shooting Star still doesn't sound so bad...probably just because it brings me back...

Could never get into that genre at all. It reminded me of the Chipmunks on speed.

junior year of high school 2000 i heard my first bit of techno

Anthony Acid & DJ Skribble MDMA Vol 1 & 2

cant believe no one has mentioned these discs... game changers for me... had never heard anything like it before and I was instantly hooked... i still listen to these albums every now and then to bring back some crazy memories lol

then in 2003 at college i started listening to diggers, PVD, and Tiesto and I've been all about trance and progressive ever since, i'd have to say Markus Schulz has been my fav DJ for the past 5 years or so

I like this question...

First day Freshman year (sept 2001) at UR. found 3 shady chinese dudes from queens sittin outside my dorm room tryin to sell me haze. we go to burn and im playing mobb deep and dude is like, nah yo, play tiesto, forbidden paradise.

im like, who?
then i DL this on either napster or limewire (forget)

then I met Larry and Chris Lee... then I heard exploration of space. then robert miles children. then I was thinkin this shit is iite.

then i continued my rap career.

then I moved to chelsea in August '06 to be a rapper and ended up meeting all of you and decided fuck rap, this club shit is straight. PvD in central park being my first party ever helped. that was a wild 2 days.

now I Glow hard

I'd been exposed to EDM since the late 80's, early 90's via genre's a bunch of you have already mentioned (freestyle, synthpop, house etc), but I didn't really get into EDM until the mid-90's, when some friends in 8th or 9th grade introduced me to The Prodigy, The Crystal Method, Robert Miles, and Fatboy Slim.

It was difficult to seek out good EDM, early on, and I didn't even really bother until hearing Cosmic Gate's Exploration of Space, in 2000, on a NY Public Access show called Wild Out Renegades. Please tell me someone here remembers this show?

Having only been to what is now Terminal 5, back in 2001, once on prom night, I just kept collecting trance music until I finally got the urge to hit up AvB in '05, for about $20

I woke up in the hospital, the next morning, and to my surprise the young doctors who'd cared for me were fans of some DJ's I was only vaguely familiar with, named Sasha & Digweed . I became an avid trance & EDM fan (and not so much a fan of alcohol) from then on.

My first real EDM CD at the time was Tranceport in 1998. Then I started downloading Oakey's Essential Mixes and fell in love with Trance. Then found some Gouryella songs played by Oakey. Shortly after I dug deeper and found Tiesto, Armin and Ferry. Before all that I listened to a bit of Kimball Collins, PvD and some random Goa my friend put out.

Watched the movie Groove and learned of John Digweed. Then found the dynamic duo and listened to Northern Exposure. Eventually picked up James Holden songs from Diggers and then stemmed from Holden to all the Minimal, House, Techno, Richie and German filth out today. Somewhere inbetween all that was Prog. I must say to this day Prog is still my favorite genre to listen to. Then the Tech/IDM genres and subgenres I dance to.
