At the time I loved the dutch sound but I think I overexposed myself to it & don't really listen to much of it nowadays. I still listen to old trance which I class to be better than todays, and a lot of the reason is that even 10, 15 years on it still sounds good to me. Maybe the techniques now are more polished but sometimes the simplicity & lack of things going on made something interesting, and since I'm now bored, here come a variety of videos of tunes I still like, from times gone by

mind the volume jumping, good melody, not too 'happy' sounding & still like it now, 14 years on.

Transa - Carla's Theme

Timo Maas - Ubik (the dance)
Listening back to oakeys old essential mixes, this sounds great imo

Slusnik Luna - Sun

There's sort of a skippy sound in this that still resonates with me now. Main melody is possibly a bit OTT but who cares, it's good

Moogwai - Labyrinth

Hypnotic lead & better than Viola for me, although the original to that is still great.

I don΄t think 1999 was that strong; 2004 and 1997 were much better.
Airwave is definitely the worst trance classic of all time; however, it does not fully represent "1999". Sandstorm and Xpander are much better candidates; both tracks are pretty damn good and among the best of their subgenres.

1999-2005 Loved trance music and hated house so much.

2005-2012 Hate trance so much and love house\techno\minimal\ progressive.

1999 trance is nostalgia for me, I started attending my first raves\electronic festivals in 1999.

Airwave is certainly a polarizing track, but I still think the melody is boss.

"99" is more of a term.

^good day mate. that organic feel in trance joints is surely missed.

I know it's bad to generalize people but I think everyone on TA at some point had a connection to '99 trance. my bad if I'm wrong.

^^If that is the tracklist from Trance Nation 1, then it was indeed released in 1999, not 2000.

heh, I don't really care so much about the melody. The bass and structure are noticeably uninteresing, though.
Breathing (Airwave 2003) was a good remake.

Interestingly enough, Scott Bond just posted a two hour mix of 1999 "re-booted". This is from his FB:

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has shown their support at Gatecrasher Red and Black - the atmosphere was truly immense!! I also express my gratitude to those who took the time to download my "1999 RE-BOOTED" mix. Due to the overwhelming response since last Thursday, the download link has jammed and isn't reliable. I have been inundated with requests to upload the mix elsewhere to tackle any download obstacles that have been experienced using Sendspace. Please see alternative links below:

This Friday, I will be playing for Agenda at Ciros in Ashby de la Zouch. I am really looking forward to DJing as it's my first time here and am preparing an exclusive "RE-BOOTED : 7 Spectrum Years" (1997-2004) set. This will cover a special blend of polished trance favourites which featured in my record box at some point during these years as well as some pumping, underground discoveries. Expect to hear music from each year detailing the journey.

I think 95-98 or so was the best period. Sasha and Digweed raping everything with trance/house mixes, Oliver Lieb, Tiesto and PVD making names for themselves.

Please fill me in on dark trance from the 90's. Unless you're talking about 'Twilo prog' I don't know any.
