Clearly you could set a whole building on fire with a lighter. You can only kill one person with a hydra shock bullet.

Knife came close.

None of them have died though (hoping they don't succumb to wounds, of course). And knives are tools, we use them to prepare potatoes. Guns are instruments with a single purpose: to irrevocably wish something's life away with the efficiency of a twitch. At their most benign, a tool for grossly unwarranted intimidation. There are exceptions, of course, but even at its core, are the rights of the many worth the lives of the innocent? I'm just not feeling like a liberated citizen when I cannot feel safe to send my children to elementary school.

Me telling my grandma, "Some dude killed a bunch of kids."

My grandma replying back, "It happens all the time in this country, why the fuss now?"

And then I think to myself, am I a fool for even discussing this issue and trying to reason with people when we all know it won't be resolved and will continue to happen?

Then again, I feel foolish for not speaking up about it.

Catch 22.

These interviews with the kids

I'm not defending the legality of guns. I agree that they need to be restricted in some way, shape, or form but they aren't single use as many people use them for target shooting although admittedly those firearms are of a far lower caliber. I can't fathom why anyone feels the need to carry concealed handguns on their person, or own .50 rifles for self-defense.

As for the Chinese school stabbing, I don't believe any of them have died as of right now, but if the guy was truly hell-bent on doing them in, he would have. It's hard to screw up killing someone with a knife.

Because other people do.

It's a fucking stand-off. I own a handgun, and I'm not relinquishing it until I can be reasonably sure that fucking nobody else in my country has one, too. Obviously that's unrealistic, and part of the problem, but that's probably the mentality of an overwhelming number of people who own guns for self-defense.

yeah i've never fully understood the reasoning behind concealed carry. i mean you're carrying a gun to be safe - but wouldn't you be safer if any potential attacker saw clearly that you had a gun on you, so he/she wouldn't mess with you?

maybe it has to do with preventing others around you from freaking out abt the fact that you're carrying a weapon??

I still don't think any handguns should be legal, simply for the fact that they're concealable. You can't really conceal a 12 gauge shotgun. And it provides more effective defense of your home than a pistol anyways. A shotgun can be an effective deterrent without ever having to shoot someone with it. In fact, you can scare someone off with a shotgun without it being loaded, and without them even having to see it.

It's mostly the second. If it wasn't concealed, an attacker could sneak up behind you and steal your gun and use it against you.

wouldn't not carrying any weapon on you at all be a safer bet, if the concern was that someone might get a hold of it and misuse it? why reduce the likelihood of something bad happening when you can make it impossible to happen in the first place, is what i'm sayin.
