Considering that I have been playing there for more than 3 years, and that one of my best friends is one of the owners, I think I know a little bit how it works there.
To put it simply, Passeport is often used as a platform for djs that are starting in the business. One of its goals is to give certain djs a chance to mix live in front of a crowd for the first time. I always try to remember that when I am booking djs to play with me.
I learned a whole lot playing there and it prepared me well for other gigs (such as the ones that I have at Circus, for instance).
It is one of the reasons why this club is very unpretentious and friendly. And one of the reasons why this club attracts people that actually go out for the music.
Thanks for your feedback. |
Agreed.. what Passeport does for new DJs is great. The pay structure is also very fair, 4 of the 5 dollars per head who pay cover are split among the DJs, and the bar keeps the rest.. or something similar to that. The sound isn't the best, but like Max said the crowd is cool.. Hugo's a great guy too.
I'm going to Peopl on saturday night for a birthday party. Onsulade is playing, I'm looking forward to checking out the new space.. haven't been since it was UN.
