A lot of "energy drinks are poison" sentiment in this thread. Anyone got any reliable sources to back up this position?

I've actually gone four days now without any caffeine, aside from a small glass of Coke on Sunday afternoon. It is an effort though, simply because I feel so dog-tired in the morning and I know exactly what will perk me up.

I think the consensus is that you are just drinking alot of caffeine , how much , you might not now, and then the sugar. Going on those two ingredients alone, i think you will find enough nutritional information that this is not a long term solution. At least cut out the adulterants and take caffeine pills or drink coffee.

Your body is probably not going to buckle after a few of them but nobody has studied the long term effects. I would say it is the combination of all the ingredients especially as you get older and you are an old fuck.

Try to find something like David's Tea in the UK. It is tea but made for people that are not really tea drinkers as it is an acquired taste. You will be hooked on something that is actually healthy for you. I searched long and hard for anything bad about tea because i've been drinking it like water and I can't find a damn thing. Even black tea all day is actually good for you and won't dehydrate you.

There are teas out there with about 5 calories that are sweat , have a bit of caffeine and good for you. You can always add a bit of stevia if you want it sweater. ANd you won't crash. Drink it all day if you want.

Not this

10 calories and no sugar, vs. 275 calories and 55g of sugar.

As for caffeine:

Type of coffee, Size , **Caffeine**
Espresso, restaurant-style 1 oz. (30 mL) 40-75 mg
Generic brewed, 8 oz. (240 mL), 95-200 mg

Yo, adderall is the way to go. I got a script. I get way more energy and focus, and it's only $5 a month.

As for caffeine:

just the acidity of the liquid is enough to pretty much ruin your teeth and system j gets cavities rather easily unless i'm confusing him with someone else in that thread abut teeth. And then the 1000 mg of taurine. I mean sure, no studies say it is bad for you but why the fuck is there taurine in a beverage.

I would say go for it if you are young but past 30, it just doesn't seem like such a great idea when there are so many better things out there. Red bull tastes like shit. I really don't get why anyone in their right mind would drink it.

Adderall is probably a short term solution thing and is rather light on the liver and easily processed. Pretty sure dexadrine is still what they give airforce pilots for long missions. Tea or coffee is really the healthiest choice. Its been around long enough. You aren't going to grow a 3rd testicle.

A 2003 study by the European Food Safety Authority found no adverse effects for up to 1,000 mg of taurine per kilogram of body weight per day.[16]

A review published in 2008 found no documented reports of negative or positive health effects associated with the amount of taurine used in energy drinks, concluding that "The amounts of guarana, taurine, and ginseng found in popular energy drinks are far below the amounts expected to deliver either therapeutic benefits or adverse effects".

Taurine is mainly derived from Bull bile, which may be the reason for the name, but it doesn't seem to have any adverse effects.

Another source says

quote:
Taurine was originally isolated from bull bile in 1827 (hence the name of the drink), but fortunately it is now made synthetically. Taurine's actual effects are wide-ranging - it is an inhibitory neurotransmitter (in some cases acting as a mild sedative), an age-defying antioxidant, and has the potential to steady irregular heartbeats.

Apparently Red Bull has an acidity of 3.26, making it less acidic than soda, lemonade, orange juice, etc.

Still acidic and not something you should be drinking regularly. The taurine as I mentioned is apparantly not harmful but why bother. I cant find a good reason for it being there. I think these drinks ae rather new and I would rather not be a guinea pig.
