I live in Atlanta, so this event is in my backyard so you can imagine my excitement. I however had never taken the leap of faith to purchase tickets to something without a lineup before. I know this is a trend now, but it's just not a practice I have ever participated in until this event launched in my hometown.
I based my decision on the world wide craze that is Tomorrow Land, and hope I'm not let down. There needs to be a techno stage, preferably one hosted by Carl Cox. I cannot handle three days of trouse and trap.
My fingers are crossed for a diverse lineup like Belguim, otherwise my tickets are being sold.
What I find crazy is the event still isn't sold out. The world wide launch was an utter failure. Plenty of tickets still out there for sale on their website. |
One issue could be the saturation of festivals. I mean look at how many festivals are going on in the next few months in the US alone:
EDC NY (May 17th and 18th), EDC Chicago (May 24th, 25th, and 26th), EDC Las Vegas (June 21st, 22nd, and 23rd), Wavefront Music Festival (July 5th 6th, and 7th), EZOO (Aug. 30th, 31st, and Sept. 1), TommorowWorld (Sept. 27th, 28th, and 29th), and EDC Orlando (Nov. 8th and 9th). Not to mention some of the smaller ones spattered here and there.
Another issue in my opinion is that they set the age limit as 21+ and yet they are booking these awful dj's to play there. I know there are some 21+ who enjoy that music but you are really cutting out your key demographic by not allowing at least 18+ to come to the festival. I mean you are booking the pop edm artists and not allowing the youngins to come? Not smart at all.
The age group they have closed in on (21+) is not the demographic that is willing to spend that much money on a ticket for trap, trouse, electro garbage. I was hyped up for this event but its been weeks and so far Jamie Jones is the only name on the list that doesn't make me puke.

You can defend them all you want, in fact I admire you for doing so, but don't you find it a little suspect that whenever these characters change their style and sound - it's always a "coincidence" they select whatever sound happens to be "popular" that month? - John Askew
A lot of artists today are just victims, not having control, and they're not free. And that's pathetic. If you start being dependent on money, then money has to reach a point to fit your expenses. - Thomas Bangalter

I think the 21+ with a lineup targeted at the 18-21 age group is a definite mismatch. I'm sure festival saturation has a lot to do with it too, the US is flooded with generic shitfests this summer, all with the same electro/dub/trap lineups, and so far this is nothing different.
Honestly, Live Nation has played every single card wrong through to this point. Maybe we'll see it move else where next year, something like upstate New York if they want to keep the same geography, because ATL was a terrible choice from day one. Then maybe drop it to 18+. Still a lot of time to turn it around, but I don't have much faith in Live Nation.

This is the big issue at hand. Obviously they would have wanted it 18up or even all ages. I have a feeling either liquor sales or liquor being allowed in the camp grounds had something to do with this. But either way 21 up and the lineup they announced is a horrible idea.

Like I've said I'm sure I'm coming off as a hater but if they had just released some underground along with the cheese I probably would have bought my tickets right off the bat. I've made other plans now so I won't be going to this either way. I'm just ticked that they decided to only release the pop artists so far. |
youre not coming off as a hater there, its correct. a lot of people have their doubts with TomorrowWorld now.
sending you a PM regarding the drama in the last thread.
