I feel sorry for people with celiac and crone's disease, but 90% of people out there are doing the gluten free thing because they want to, not because they are allergic.

Maybe I'm jaded because every other yoga addict out here is apparently "allergic to gluten" but most of the gluten free thing is utter bullshit.

Yes, some foods and groups of foods use may too much, and sadly the cheaper they are the more they have, but a moderate amount of gluten is absolutely fine.

It seems gluten allergies are mainly in the American gene pool (read: head) as every country in Europe eats bread by the truckload. Fuck, when i go to switzerland or france, it's literally part of every single meal. You don't hear a about gluten allergies often there. Funny that.

Crohn's disease isn't really related to gluten at all. Most certainly nothing that could be considered a gluten allergy.

Rann I don't think it's necessarily allergy but more of a sensitivity. I would say I am sensitive to gluten but certainly not allergic to it.

If people feel better while not eating gluten, who are we to call them stupid for it?

That said, I do think it's probably true that most of the people who don't eat gluten are just doing it because it's a fad. I always find it amusing, since I actually do have a gluten allergy, but I just ignore it

I don't think it's a fad so much as new research that suggests that carbohydrates, gluten-heavy ones in specific, aren't very good for the human body. They're unnatural from an evolutionary standpoint, and they cause inflammation in your body which can lead to all kinds of things like hardening of arteries, high blood pressure, etc. It's similar to drinking milk after you're done breastfeeding.

I would base my opinion on scientific studies that prove said food is bad. Most food and supplements/vitamins aren't naturally occurring or available to our ancestors. I doubt our ancestors drank almond milk either but that doesn't mean it's bad for you either.

There is no one "right" diet or way to eat.

Eat whole foods. Don't eat processed foods(like juice, soda, junk food). Fresh foods. Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables.

Literally, every month it seems there is a new "right way" to eat and its bullshit. Low Fat, Low Carb, Now Paleo, High Fat, Now Low Sugar...next it'll be low vegetable because they will have run out of food groups to exclude.

I honestly can't tell if you're just incredibly misinformed, trolling or just have real problems with creating opinions based on information.

Not to have a go, but I just can't figure out where you get your info. Sometimes it's like you just pick an opinion for the sake of having one.

Wheat, and gluten in general, while not causes of crohn's, are known to cause flare ups in people with Crohns and exacerbate the disease.

Even a cursory google search would have shown you the number of people that have managed their Crohn's disease through gluten free diets. One of my family members had Crohn's disease and gluten would really fuck with her digestive system as a direct result of the disease.

I think you're right but so many people say "allergy" as opposed to sensitivity (or even "I prefer to not have it"), which are two very different things; you can often deal with sensitivities, and even cure them through things like conditioning techniques, but allergies are a very different level of chemical intolerance. I think many people use the term just because it's a fad and it's cool to do so.

You also have to realize that there's a multi billion dollar industry attached to this fad in the form of gluten free products being at insanely high price points compared to other foods, so there's a reason to market this fad beyond it's real and medical application.

Totally agree with this; if people don't want to then that's fine, but I abhor the whole wearing your fake allergy like a badge of honor.

I had it "diagnosed" by applied kinesiology of all things. But, despite that I gave it a try, I more or less stick to it and I DO feel better for it.
