Burning man is so fascinating. I hear the tickets cost more when they're first released and go down in price after.

Really great questions indeed. Except #2 - maybe not best asked on a public forum lol

Also sounds like that if you're traveling there, it is going to take a big bite of your wallet to gear up with all the necessities once there. Tupperware bins, bikes, decorations, etc. And camping gear if you're not RV'ing, even then you still need to gear up.

And the LNT ideal, awesome idea, but sounds more difficult than it maybe really is.

I would love to just have a big budget, fly down to Reno, rent a sikk RV, gear up, load up and get tons of supplies and head on in for a week of adventure.

I do have a few questions though.

1) Can you come and go as you please? If you need more supplies, can you go run out into town and go get some? Maybe dump some garbage and grey water as well?

2) Drugs, we all know it's happening, and an integral part of BM from what I hear. If this is a cashless society, are people just trading drugs for drugs? And if so, as the guide says, there is highway patrol checking cars on the highway in and out, and other authorities on Gate Road, how is everyone getting in enough drugs (if that's your thing) to trade and indulge in all week? Not to mention, if drugs were in your wheelhouse, and you're not from around there, where in the hell would you link up to get some once you're in the area?

3) This whole communal thing, is that something practiced by everyone, or just the more devout burners? If I was just there chilling and grilling up a couple steaks for my and a friend, some dude walks up wearing a boa and eyeshadow, am I obliged to give him some? Not being selfish, but where is the line or grey area of this share and trade society?

4) Are people who are there for the music and everything, and the art, but more introverted and not flashy frowned upon? Perhaps it's their first time and they are not in costume, or camp/rv is not decorated. I know that probably they will get in the mood and mindset and be more prepared the next year. But would that group of people at an undecorated camp, not in costume, not going apeshit crazy be looked at as narcs or 'the man'.

5) Bikes, are you just grabbing them of craigslist, use and then recycling them?

6) Can someone take me? For free of course.

7) People are playing music, have systems etc, DJ equipment, how is dust not a factor for damage?

8) Pissing or shitting is frowned upon (of course) on the playa. But are they really that strict? What if there is nothing around, can't find the porta potty and you had a few to many to drink or whatever, and you need to piss, or you get sick and puke. You going to get a citation for real?

Next year I will go! And it will be in style. RV for sure, need those toilets and abundance of water.

1. i dont believe you can leave (not 100% certain) but they have vendors for supplies you can buy while there or you can barter with others. all garbage is taken out with you when you leave.

2. theyre everywhere. friend of mine is going again and said its not even an issue getting shit.

planning to go next year myself. my friend did up a crazy spreadsheet comparing RVing to camping with the pros and cons of both. they did RV last year which worked well but obviously costs far more. For those coming from out of town it makes more sense to fly into reno and rent an RV from there and if you get enough people its really not badly priced IMO. one of the downsides to the RV is people hate the constant noise from the generators, however if youre camping, its really roughing it for 7-10 days and you also have to find a camp to join and offer something of value to the camp. there is a huge amount of thought and preparation that goes into making BM a success and fun as my friend has mentioned to me but he cannot wait to get back. he said it was truly life changing to experience.

Fair question, it wasn't for me persay, just curious. Anyone who thinks people are dead sober for 7 days in the desert dancing till 7am and wearing body glitter and there are not drugs there, probably has already don too many drugs. Not that there are not sober people, I know a bunch going who are clean and straight who party each year there. Wasn't asking for people to give me names and cell numbers. Just curious really as to the economy with supply and demand for it there.

I also read in the guidebook that there are times where they suggest you run the genny to store up the batteries. An hour each day should suffice they said. Also tips on how to insulate the sound with damper padding, which most newer RVs have. There was also RV etiquette where campers and RVs could get along because of a few advantages of RVs.

1) Blocks wind, a single RV positioned properly as people set up acts as a dust/wind shield for a small camp
2) Depending on the RV size, people can dump their grey water there and they chip in on the drainage from the available trucks $50 a tank I think.
3) Torrential ran, most people with RVs offer shelter in those times.

As long as you're not treating the RV like a house, but more so a really convenient place of shelter with more amenities, you're cool.

Apparently ended up being fake.

But leads me to another question.

10) All these world class DJs, even the semi famous and underground ones. Who's paying them? Who's renting or bringing in their own gear and equipment. Are the camps getting reimbursed by Burning Man for those costs out of the ticket prices? I don't think you're paying entry fees to each party/camp each night if I'm correct? I would assume if you're Robot Heart for example, you're going to Reno airport, picking up the talent, maybe even putting them up in a hotel there, if not renting them their own RV for the possibly one night, or more they are at the Playa. These costs come from somewhere right?

all free, artists cover themselves and all buy their own tickets.
