Oh for fuck's sake people.
Just in case any noobs are reading, let's clarify:
The quality of your needles, tonearm, decks WILL NOT affect audio sound quality on a DVS system.
It will however affect the tracking, wow and flutter, strength of the control signal and clarity of the control signal.
Wow and flutter CAN affect the audio quality because it will directly affect the pitch with is a distortion of time and therefore key, often in an unpredictable manner which in translates to a degraded reproduction of the original sound.
The control signal needs to be clean so the system can accurately reproduce the correct speed and placement, so while clarity in terms of the signal is not paramount as it is with analogue vinyl, there is still a audio quality related issue with the accuracy of control signal and components used to pick it up.
What people don't realize is that the control signals used are actually a pair of complex signals, out of phase with each other, one of the L and the other on the R. If you needles aren't setup correctly or worn, then it's going to be difficult to pick up both channels and then the system is not going to be able to accurately reproduce the exact speed and placement (which again for the reasons above is technically degradation on sound).
Also bear in mind that these programs still have to translate the positioning information in to a constant manipulation of the audio file, and especially with MP3 where the data bit depth is already compromised and you're going through a codec as part of the internal processing, tiny changes in speed/placement can really have the effect of degrading the perceived playback quality.
Now in the case of serato, which uses the "noise map", you could argue that quality of signal is even more crucial as that "map" needs to be correctly reproduced to track correctly.
Having said all this, let's get real: You are not going to be able to tell the difference in sound quality between any decent needle on any decent turntable (not belt drive) that is set up properly, using clean control vinyl, versus the best Shure Needles, on Mk5gs with gold RCA's connectors that has been painstakingly setup by a seasoned professional.
The quality of the track will have 100 times more effect on how it sounds than the example above will.
So to simplify: Will better kit affect the tracking? Yes. Will better kit affect audio reproduction quality? No.
