Another factor to keep in mind is these radio sets are abridged versions of a longer set. Anyone who has seen Paul play a 4+ hour set will know Paul does spin a lot of upbeat non-trancey progressive tunes. I've been to 6-8 hour PvD sets at Twilo and I can absolutely tell you it's very very progressive in the beginning. Then a few trance tracks and then back to progressive. The only time when Paul goes to uplifting is the last hour.
If you want to hear progressive, listen to Paul's Love From Above set part 3 (12-07-02). Most people have the uplifting first half of his set but not the 2nd or 3rd. |
Scott, you took the Words right out of my mouth. The fact that we, as intelligent listeners, are fortunate enough to hear our favorite dj sets as mp3s has a good side and bad. The good side obviously being that we can hear the tracks they're playing ATM, and simply enjoy it. The bad side of this is that we get disappointed when we hear sets with the same tracks, and even same transitions...the fact of the matter is the dj, including PVD, isnt spinning for the mp3 listeners, but rather, for those who are actually at the event. On a personal note, Paul's set from Knebworth in 2001 was the day after I saw him in Boston, and it was almost the same exact set...so what? He's not spinning for people who follow him day-to-day...that would get boring.
Everyone has their own opinion in regards to what you like and dont like, but the experience of listening to a great dj such as PVD live is completely different than just listening to his recorded sets, which most of the time, are broadcasted from "Massive" events.
PS> Starfox, I think his first hour at SF was amazing..for goodness sake he dropped Sunstroke! And you were going crazy if my memory serves me correct!
