Well, I finally got 8 hours of sleep last night, and feel it's time to write a decent review of this event...

Having seen Mauro Picotto on Oct. 4th at System Sounbar in TO(which was one of top 3 parties that I've ever been to), I didn't think his set at Aria could be any better. Boy, was I wrong. His set absolutely kicked ass! I don't think the party itself was better(party at System was just tooooo good), but I still had a freaking AWESOME time !

We(Tatgirl, OrangeMega, TheNeonAlien, Tony and myself) got to to Aria around 1:30. Once we got the the line-up, we immediately saw Rubyriva(she came over from Syracuse for this), who got to the line like 1-2 minutes before us(this one of the first amazing coincidences of this trip). Thanks to Tatgirl(thank you so much !!), who ordered tickets online for this, we got in without waiting in line at all(apparently if you order tickets online, you get line bypass).

The first impression of Aria that I got was NOT a good one.. In fact, I thought that we are in some kind of a jail(no offence to Biggy, but the walkway to coatcheck from main entrance is just way too scary).

We then had to wait like 15 mins till we put our coats in a coatcheck.(Biggy, why not hire another coat-check person? This should cut wait-in-line time by like 25%, cause bouncers don't let people in until coatcheck area has more room)

Now we were all set to party.... We got to the main room, where Mateo Murphy(at least I think it was him) was playing at the time. I really liked his style, especially last half hour prior to Picotto. Lighting and sounds were really amazing; however I did miss lazers(another hint to Biggy). We chilled outside the DJ booth till about 4(didn't see any MTL TAs at that point though), and then went to the dancefloor awaiting Picotto.

Finally Mauro embraces the decks ! He started off with the same track as in TO. As soon as the beat comes in, the whole dance floor goes nuts! It was great! In general he played a much harder set than in TO; however there weren't as many highlights. His TO set was a bit mellower, but as soon as that hard track started, it was craziness !
MTL was all hard.

Now, I have found out on Oct. 4, but that night just confirmed it -
partying with Caryn, Nathalie, Dom, Vince and Tony(Rubyriva, Tatgirl, OrangeMega, TheNeonAlien, *TonyInsertYourNickNameHere* respectively) is the best experience ever ! If you ever hear that these 5 are in town, make sure you are there, as partying with them is just as fun(if not more), as enjoing the best music out there ! Thanks guys for being so awesome !

Montreal TA's have been great as well ! Fastmp3 found us in the middle of Mauro's set and took us behind the DJ booth where all other TAs were hanging out(why are you guys always there, and not on the dancefloor ? ) There we meet TechnoFreak, Ahlamalek, Le Castrateur and some others. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to MTL and partying it up again with you guys(or you can come to TO and check out our scene) !

We finally left the club at 8:30, after Mauro finished his set and didn't stay outside the booth for even 2 minutes, what's up with that?

Overall:
Music - 10/10 (Do I need to explain ? )
Club Aria - 6/10 (looks too *underground* - just because trance/techno are not mainstream, doesn't mean the place should seem so damn dangerous, coatcheck/lineup too slow, no lazers. As I already mentioned before though; sound and lights are AWESOME! Good job! DJ Booth is great too - gotta love being able to see the DJ up close and personal )

=================================================================
Our trip back was FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN indeed. All due to Rubyriva's UNPRECEDENTED bathroom incident. But I'll let someone else tell the story first, as I feel I have already written too much.

==================================================================
Comments:
I think it's well known to everybody, but I'll state it once again. MTL parties have way more girls than TO parties, but at the same time MTL parties have way more topless guys than TO parties. Of course it's fun when good looking girls are smiling and dancing next to you, but it's not much fun when some sweaty topless guy *accidentally* bumps into you or whatever. So I would have to say that these two factors completely cancel each other out Another thing I noticed is that WAY more people are seriously fucked up on drugs in MTL. Apparently 2-3 pills a night is a norm there. Not that I mind - nothing wrong with having a bunch of happy people partying, though myself I'd never do so much ever.

to the TO people I'm really sorry I didnt really party with you guys, I was still drunk and could hardly manage to film the event hehehe... plus I was pissed off at the Guest list guy for not letting my friends in (they went home but I called them back just in time!)

To Durafei, we were still recovering from Corsten's set 2 days before... this is why most of us stayed behind the booth!

I think I understand what you mean about Aria, its not "glam" enough... hehe Aria is all about the music, the sound system and the lights... and off course its crowd! There's soooo many good looking clubs in montreal, the only thing is their music is either hiphop or some other shit... come pass a weekend here and we'll go around visiting some of them :P

multicolored lasers like Viva would be cool to have in Aria IMO. The trick is not to over use them.

Mauro Picotto @ Aria was THE BEST party I have ever been to in my entire life!! I think Durafei's review was 100% accurate! Well said Ilyia.

One of the main resons why my night was incredibly AMAZING was because of the people I went with. Durafei, RubyRiva, TheNeonAlien, tatgirl and Tony. You guys all kick ass!! My night wouldn't of been the same without you. I have only known Durafei for a little but I must say, he is one of the nicest guys I have ever met! A really good guy! There was a time at ARIA that I was completly spaced out and didn't know what was going on, out of no where come's Durafei with a bottle of water for me!!! I was totaly speachless.
That was really nice of him. Thank you very much Durafei, you are a cool guy to party with! Rubyriva and tatgirl are the nicest girls I have ever met!! Really fun to party with! Thank you Caryn for giving me somthing to laugh at this weekend (Bathroom Incident)lol Waiting for you at the gastation wasn't a problem at all, we ended up having a BLAST! As for TheNeonAlien and Tony.............THANK YOU SO MUCH! These guys are just amazing, really really good guys. If it wasnt for Vince and Tony I would have missed Mauro @ Aria, they made my night much more memorable!

I give Mauro Picotto a 10/10! It was just CRAZY.
As for the TA's that were there...I was the tall skinny guy wearing a white long sleeve shirt, I also had a brace on my right arm (DAM SCOOTERS) I was in the middle of the club by the DJ booth danicing ALL night.

Ilyia, Tony, Vince, Caryn and Natalie are GREAT TO PARTY with!!
Thank you all for the good memories!!

Dom

people were told clearly that there was no hiphop tonight...

sometimes it just happens that there's lots of chicks at once, like for example at Misstress Barbara on June 8th.

At least u had a 36 hrs to recover- we had Ferry the night before, and I only had 2 hrs sleep that morning.

Looks like this thread has turned into a sappy bonding forum for me and my TO (& NY) compadres. What a long strange trip it's been..... I think we broke a record when it took us 12 hrs to drive back from Montreal to TO. OK, not all of it was driving, but waiting....and waiting....and then the holiday traffic!

Anyways, there's not much more I can say that hasn't been said about Mauro's set. Mateo played some sick tracks before Mauro went on. I'm sorry I never went to check out the other room in Aria- next time I will. I'm glad I went- I had a great time with my buddies (I haven't laughed that hard in a LONG time), and made some new ones from the Montreal chapter of TA.

Until we meet again....
