Having done both I'd have to say College is better on the whole. I graduated in 2 years in PR/Communications. Starting salary around 25-35k. I can do 1 year at Uni now and get a BComm (3 years to get a BA people!). In the time it takes most to get a BA, 4 years, I can have my Masters, which I believe takes an extra year.

Uni has more pressure, but the social life is better. It all depends on the place you go though. Uni's have... how do I put this delicately... screw it, smarter people. So you end up having more interesting conversations and such.

If you're looking to go into a specific profession (medecine, law, etc...) then Uni is the way to go. But if you're in a general BA, hell if you're just history, english, or something that doesn't have a clear professional goal at the end, then you way well end up in College so you can get the skills employers need. I have won contracts for jobs over people with BA's and masters because I have the skills, while they just have theory. I had two work placements, which meant I graduated with work experience. Can Uni grads say that after 4 years and 25k +?

In my program, out of the 40 or so students, 12 or 13 had degrees, 2 had Masters in english. But they couldn't find work in PR because there are very specific styles of writing required. You have to know when to write in what style, depending on the media you're trying to reach.

In college things are very hands on. You learn skills.

In Uni you learn how to kiss ass, do giant bong tokes and drink Yagermeiser (sp?). Granted these are very usefull life kills, they don't really transfer into the work world easily.
