There's an eery feeling to loading up the Terminal, Firing up the EC2 Cluster and launching Ubuntu every morning. It's almost...godlike.
For fun I'm working on a SystemC Haskell Library of dependencies to model bulk topological Ofets.
Which brings me to my other point, learn Regular Expressions, Lambdas, and any LISP language you can get your hands on. Do it in your spare time, open a git or code bucket but familiarize yourself with command lines and emacs.

Just remember, this is a Science which was partially given to us by a much more advanced civilization. We won't get to understand everything, but let's focus on the bottlenecks that are easier and then we re-route everything and build something new and unexpected.
