Honest question, not trying to stir the religious/political pot: do you see this (violent extremism) ever ending?

I mean, if you as an individual or a group truly hate another person's or society's religious (or lack thereof) beliefs and/or way of life so vehemently that you are willing to kill and terrorize the general, civilian population, I am not sure you can ever come to any other point of view and settle your differences peacefully.

Further, I personally cannot fathom a universe with a creator who says, "kill everyone who does not believe in me exactly as you do."

I see this as more a by-product of being human. We can go to some incredible extremes if we feel motivated and justified enough to do so, and it doesn't take much prodding to get to such a place in the right kind of environment. Such events aren't likely to end any time soon, not so long as one group of people feel slighted or threatened by another and must retaliate. It just sucks that we live in an era where the means to carry out a mass murder like the one in Paris is possible. Though perhaps we should also be thankful our society, generally, isn't so despicable that this is a frequent occurrence.

Though a large part of me believes otherwise, the smaller part of me says that one day, maybe hundreds of years from now, we'll look back on history and behavior like this and marvel that it could ever have taken place.

The problem is that the dropping of bombs and US foreign policy (economic & otherwise) is what has led us to this kind of blowback from groups that either a) didn't exist or b) stuck to their own part of the world.

The 'Global War on Terrorism' is about as effective as the US 'War on Drugs' - neither has accomplished what they set out to do outside of further fueling the expansion of the military-industrial complex and a slow erosion of civil liberties ...mostly introduced under the veil of protecting a populace that is both fearful and largely de-sensitized to ongoing worldwide conflicts until they happen in a place like Paris - but that's a whole other topic.

The best way to slow this down is to diminish the actions/policies that causes these nutjobs to feel they have nothing to live for other than blowing themselves up.

The EU is in for some hard decisions in 2016 regarding its open border policy.

BREAKING: Toronto Man Arrested for speaking against Paris Islamic
quote:

On the very night that hundreds of bodies littered the streets of Paris, a Toronto man was handcuffed and thrown into jail on "hate crimes" charge for speaking out on the streets and restaurants of downtown Toronto.. speaking AGAINST the Islamic terrorist attacks in Paris.

The video showed that he never said anything particularly offensive, never threatened anyone.. In fact he was assaulted twice as seen in the video... BUT alas, he did utter the word ISLAM, which prompted people to call the police.

On a busy Friday night, when Toronto police take hours to respond to even serious assaults, the word ISLAM and ISLAMOPHOBIA spurred a half dozen squad cars to spring into action and arrest Eric Brazau.

One member of RISE CANADA postulated that if a huge Islamic terrorist attack were taking place on one side of Toronto, while someone else was criticizing ISLAM on the other side, the police would ignore the terrorist attacks and rush to arrest the person criticizing Islam.

These are the priorities of Canada's largest cities. Sleep well tonight, we are ALL in good hands.

Have to disagree with you some what on this. In the 90s al qaeda made many many threats to america and we didn't do anything to them we didn't force are way of life on them US foreign policy economic police I don't think had anything to with it. At the time Bill Clinton wanted to take the route Obama has be taking airstrikes. Al qaeda attacked a few things before 9/11 and the Clinton ignored it. Then 9/11 happened and GB handle that Al qaeda is not a threat anymore. maybe we should have not went to Iraq. the only way to defeat ISIS is do it how GB did Al qaeda pretty soon they will be here. As for civil liberties I don't feel any of my civil liberties have been token away. Doing the same thing I did then as I do now.

So apparently Anonymous are going after ISIS due to the attacks in Paris.

Hopefully they can mess with the internet recruiting and propaganda.

Am I the only one who believes this is a black flag event orchestrated by the shadow government? How does ISIS get away with this? 8 guys against hundreds? Who funds ISIS? Where do they get their guns?

This is an attack on our civil liberties? using Radical Islam as a scapegoat? Pure speculation. The lives were real and the events seem to be legitimate. It's not far fetched to see a well organized extremist faction purport atrocities of this sort. It's a lot harder to design propulsion systems that can take us to Jupiter.

In no way am I belittling the events of nov 13th, my deepest condolences. Miss Kittin and Madonna are right, love and fun will conquer all.
