Honest question, not trying to stir the religious/political pot: do you see this (violent extremism) ever ending?
I mean, if you as an individual or a group truly hate another person's or society's religious (or lack thereof) beliefs and/or way of life so vehemently that you are willing to kill and terrorize the general, civilian population, I am not sure you can ever come to any other point of view and settle your differences peacefully.
Further, I personally cannot fathom a universe with a creator who says, "kill everyone who does not believe in me exactly as you do." |
I see this as more a by-product of being human. We can go to some incredible extremes if we feel motivated and justified enough to do so, and it doesn't take much prodding to get to such a place in the right kind of environment. Such events aren't likely to end any time soon, not so long as one group of people feel slighted or threatened by another and must retaliate. It just sucks that we live in an era where the means to carry out a mass murder like the one in Paris is possible. Though perhaps we should also be thankful our society, generally, isn't so despicable that this is a frequent occurrence.
