I got my novation supernova pro off of ebay used, but it was still a fair investment. At the time I had recently started using reason, and I felt limmited with the quality of sounds that I could use. I got the synth without even testing it out or anything, and I must say it was a good purchase. The sounds are definately more substancial than most of the reason synths (though some reason synths are actually good,,, especially on the maelstrom). Have I got my moneys worth of use out of it yet? Nope, not yet. I used it heavily when I first got it, but then started getting back into reason, and just sampling a few loops off of the supernova and importing them. I didnt even use it for the track that I just got a record contract for (12" release). But I am definately going to use it more for my next few productions. It gives a very different sound than what reason can produce.

I also have a Korg ER-1 drum machine, and I dont really use it at all. It was not worth the money, because it's alittle too electro sounding, and not exactly what I'm going for. I also got it off ebay though, used. In my opinion it is alot easier to do all the drum work exclusivly with software. I also had the EA-1, but managed to sell it and make back all the money I used to buy it.

Yeah I would say they are alittle too high.. but there are some great deals in terms of value. you could look into the Waldorf Micro Q for example. Pair that with an M-Audio sound card that supports midi input, like the USB Quattro, and your set up to use some insane sounding synths in your computer based trackes for a reasonable price.

Eugene, it's subjective but I do think that hardware gives a lot more warmth and messing around with knobs and keys is much more fun than staring to a screen and clicking the mouse. I'm very glad I didn't spend tons of money for a better computer and bought some synths.

Dj chrono, I have to say my mate has an ER1 and it is capable of doing some crazy things and it's a lot of fun to work with (the sound parameters etc) you can also do some crazy efx when going live like setting the delay time so it doubles the beat (about 4 dots from the end) and then set delay to max and decrease the delay time.

Yeah, I know it is definately good for live preformances, because of the fx it has. the delay is always fun, adjusting the depth and time to produce a stutter like effect. But the drums that are avaliable on it are not very realistic sounding, that's my only complaint.

Modular...you say you have an athlon but then you also say Cubase Sux and that you use Logic Platinum...how are you able to run logic? Do you also have a mac system you didnt mention?

To partly answer the question in Haak's place I'd say you make as many phat leads as you want because we're talking about analog synthesis, meaning you can really start from scratch and build your own patch instead of using samples. What really gives you a kick is from making a typical tranzy lead a 909 kick etc.. The sky is the limit (well... don't try realistic instruments on it) YOU CAN BUY IT IN THE MUSICSHOP , strange eh price will be about 700 €

Yes, very strange, because here in local music shops they don't sell synths, my friend... They sell rock guitars and maybe a keyboard...
