Even then most people don't bother looking at the PL. Most people don't even care about the producer.

Well, to any aspiring new producers reading this thread: just give the fuck up, because TA has decided that there is no route to success.

I wouldn't necessarily argue with that but there are so many producers that put out reliable club tracks over a long period of time and never really get the ball rolling to where they have a busy touring schedule. And on other hand you have a whole bunch of people that blow up just based on a couple of records, hype and social media promotion. I do agree that the music you put out still matters but I feel like just supplying a steady stream of solid DJ fodder does less than it used to, unless it's backed by the right promotion.

I was out with a fairly sucessful music producer and songwriter (mainly pop, but some commercial dance) and he said that it depends on what platform the streaming is on as to whether you make any money.

Pandora apparently isn't worth even having your music on. The payout is so low that even if every registered user on the platform heard your track twice, you still wouldn't earn enough to pay rent for a month.

Spotify however can apparently make you money. In Sweden they are basically at 100% saturation. Nearly every single person there has a spotify account. They have no growth predicted, but artists can make money just due o the sheer dominance there.

In other territories, where the competition is higher (USA, UK etc) the payout scale is apparently less.

Although, he just got a track signed to a movie release and the one Sync fee from that (even having to give up a big chunk of the publishing) was bigger than his entire catalogues steaming revenue to day.

Spotify only benefits those that have embraced it first but even then their suggested algorithm is manipulated/rigged by people paying to get fake plays just like how youtube allows fake comments and you can buy bots that do all the hard work for you. It's the same way the sharemarket works.

As I see it, the site's core market has always been digital DJs, and the vast majority of them don't use Bandcamp to buy individual tunes. No one I know does that. Dance music right now is at a level of popularity not seen since the Millennium, and so there are more bedroom DJs than ever.

As for casual fans, I'd say they were always more likely to listen to mixes or compilations than buy individual files from specialist websites. It felt to me like Beatport's streaming model was an attempt to monetise casual EDM listeners rather than recapture disappearing revenue.

What bullshit dude. The world is running out of money. Infact, the elite have taken so much of the money that people are going to soon default. That will start a chain reaction and then you'll start to see countries default because EVERYTHING IS ON CREDIT! We just delayed the catastrophe in 2008 but I don't think we are getting out this time. All this money that you are seeing is probably laundered or through the drug cartel or some really shady shit that makes you question the whole system. They'll probably sell the debt to some other country to take on.

I'm really curious to hear how any of what you have written makes my post "bullshit". So it's categorically impossible for a company to report a genuine profit?
