That purpose is to fear G-d and observe His commandments, as King Solomon once said. G-d took the Jewish nation out of Egypt, out of bondage, to accept upon themselves the Torah, which is the very purpose of our lives. And I don't "use" it to merely bring purpose to my life, I live a religious life because it makes my life much better, bringing me joy, fulfilment and peace, among many other good things.
There's uncertainty in religious life too - I have no idea of the day of my death or how I will die, or if I'm always going to have enough money to pay rent and put food on the table. That's not why I chose a religious life.
