HEY, i know it is kinda late but i wanted to post it for the hell of it. Does Hardcore/metal count? even though it's not black or death metal?
bands like: Canderia, walls of jericho, blood has been shed, diecast, CONVERGE, coalesce, 40 days rain, godforbid, 100 demons, kill switch engage, all out war, glass jaw ( it goes on and on.....)

for the most part black or death metal was looked down upon in the new england scene of the us....one night IN FLAMES played in worcester, massachusetts with shadow falls and johan larson got his ass kicked in the parking lot outside his touring bus for being in a metal band and acting like he was tough shit.

I am not exactly into the scene anymore though but i still download from time to time and listen to some of the music that is floating around...I was into the scene when you used to pick up the demo's on vinyl. i have some friends that are still into it but i am more into hardtrance now. i got sick of going to shows where 98% of the crowd were men and the few women that were there look like men or were completely retarded. And if youwere lucky to find a nice looking girl, she barely had half a brain AND she was taken. Plus you know, there comes a point where you have to get a real job and you can't be coming in with cuts and bruises from the pits.... it's bad for business. no body wants to be in a meeting with you if your spitting blood out of your mouth into a cup evey five minutes..... lol....
