If there is such a mysterious underground world of super hard techno with a different name that we've never heard of, then give us the names of some DJs so we can have a listen and verify that for ourselves. Until then, I conclude that "Tekno" is just a way of spelling it to make it look a bit 'cooler'. If you combined hard techno with hardcore you would just make the techno less hard!

Okay, time to set things straight I did some research and found some info on whether tekno is a style/movement or not.

First of all when you say hardcore is just plain fast and cheesy you're probably referring to the hardcore from the mid 90's (1995-1998). However just listen to the non-commercial hardcore from that period or the more recent hardcore (e.g. Thunderdome 2001) and you'll find no cheese at all. Just plain (very) hard hardcore. The first cd of Thunderdome 2001 shows a very hard industrial dark sound which is more techno stylish than pure hardcore. So there's absolutely no problem in combining techno and hardcore at all. Tracks I'm referring to:

Armageddon Project - Church Of Pentagram
Catscan feat. DJ Promo - Virgin Territory
Armageddon Project - Armageddon Style
N-Vitral - Enhence Nevious
Armageddon Project - Phase II

And here's where I come to the tekno part. Very recently there are many Teknival parties held all over Europe. These are all illegal parties held in squats, industrial areas or even just in the open air. The Teknival movement comes from Eastern Europe and their only goal is to organize parties where there's no commercialism involved. Just a party for everybody at very low costs (sometimes no costs). The Teknival movement consists of neo-punks and alternative people (absolutely no clubbers!!! they look like heavy metal lovers actually ). The music that's being played at these illegal parties is, oh wait there it is , tekno. It's harder and faster than normal techno. It's more a combination of hardcore and techno.

I didn't make this whole story up! It's true. A friend of mine went to such a party in a warehouse very recently. I have no proof of that (pictures or sound recordings), so you just have to believe me. Can't do nothing about that.

Oh yeah, one last thing; I can't give you examples of DJ's or music because it's non-commercial. The DJ's won't make any compilations or cd's. They'll probably get their records from a normal store, but I don't know any tekno artists or tracks. I'm sorry for that.

Hope this clears things up a bit. You don't have to believe me Maybe if I get the chance to get my hands on pictures of such parties or even sound recordings I'll let you know.

Picotto's theory on music is that of which he plays good QUALITY music, and just now and over the last couple of years he has found that consistant quality in the techno scene. He will play anything from down beat house to prog to stomping techno, he doesn't have boundaries to his music style, all he does is play GOOD MUSIC! This is why people have so much to talk about when discussing his sound.. It varies that much that you cant pinpoint it...

but 99% of the stuff he plays is hard techno

No its not. Picotto doesnt play hard techno, well the occasional track yes but Its far from hard when you compare it to the stuff people like Chris Liebing and DJ Rush play...

Picotto plays a good spectrum of House, Tech House, prog and Techno IMO..

hrmm i think maybe we just have our genres confused.. prog and house might mean something different to you...

im not going to argue that ive seen picotto more than you.. since i ahve only seen him twice..

ive heard his sets tho.. he produces trance and hard techno.. and the rare prog/ambient/house tune

ive never heard him spin anything lower than 135 bpms tho.. and house and prog are definately 120 - 125 bpms.. that is under my definition of prog and house

Picotto is always saying how Britian is not good because everyone is always catigorising styles... Thats exactly what your doing, a track, wheather it be techno or house isnt defined by the speed of it .. I dont supose you have heard of the VIP Lounge albums? Picotto albums without a drum beat never mind talking about bpms. Dance music is versitile and can be manipulated to anything, thats why its so good. Picotto is far more than what you think he is.. This will probably become more apparent over the next couple of years as he goes on to tackle his next venture, Meganite.

But believe me when I say Picotto plays music from all genres.

categorizing a track under it's original bpm doesn't make much sence, a DJ can easily speed it up during the set. So your house track make become much speedier then it was in the first place.

He plays Italian Techno like Mario Piu, Joy Kikitoni, Ricky Effe, Marco Zafferano, Bishmark etc he does occasionally play some what I would call Tech Trance tunes, he however more or less plays a sub genre of techno, Italian Techno hence the BXR mob who I named above.

that's it! i refuse to comment this... the whole thing that u are talking about just doesn't make any sense... some ultra-underground people that look like heavy metal lovers and rave to something they call tekno but never techno... dj's and producers that are so underground that only a bunch of punks know about them yeah whatever dude,

"y'know i listen to tekno a lot... what that? no, i didn't say techno, it's tekno... no, they are not the same; tekno is underground techno... shut up, i know what i'm saying."

The neo-punk squat scene has existed around London and the rest of Europe for years, and you can probably find pictures on the net if you look. Chris Liberator has done many gigs for free and still does, as have other London Acid Techno DJs like Dave the Drummer, Rowland the Bastard etc, those are the ethics of the acid techno community (Acid Junkie will be able to give you plenty more names than I can). So talking about squat parties doesn't say anything. If you read about the acid techno scene you'll read about exactly the sort of stuff you've described in your post. Chris Liberator is a neo-punk who does free (or very cheap) squat parties in London and plenty of people know about him! He also has a number of compilations to his name, such as the one in my sig.

I'd honestly like to believe that there is some romantic shady underworld that noone knows about throughout urban Europe but I'm afraid I can't. I'm all ears, but if you can't name a single artist of track then it's safe to say it's not a genre. I mean, there has to be a community around it, and therefore some of the tracks, if they were any good, would have been heard of, or at least the DJs. The idea that this community has left no trace of its presence sounds like some sort of ghost story!

I can just imagine these "tekno" heads having a conversation:

Person A: I heard a great tekno set the other day!
Person B: Was that tekno or techno?
A: *sigh* Tekno, are you deaf?
B: Oh techno, I thought you said Tekno.
A: I did say Tekno.
B: But you just said Techno!
A: What?
