Pioneer DJM-500 Mixer
JBL N-26 6" 2-Way Speaker 125W Pair
American DJ PSX Scratchable CD Player or Numark CDN90 Dual CD player
Pioneer HDJ-1000 High-End Pro. Heaphones

Roland MC-909 Sampling Groovebox (Maybe in a year or so AFTER I have bought all of the other equipment)

Ok, I know this is WAYYY more than I want to spend, but Im starting to save up now. I have a few hundred in the bank, and over the summer intent to atleast get the 2 turntables. My b-day is in December, so intend to do some shopping than as well, get the mixer, if I dont already have it. My goal is simply to buy quality stuff that will last years because I dont intend on going out and buying new stuff after a year.

When it comes to building a place to put it, my dad owns a cabinet making company. Ill take time out on the weekends and go to his shop and build one for myself.

Anyone have any comments on the stuff I want to buy, maybe you guys can give me alittle advice on these things.

Anyone have any suggestions???

no dude, get technics turntables, 1200mk3. and get sony mdr-v700 headphones. pioneer is a good brand, american dj isn't. vestax and stanton make good mixers as well. i'd go for the numark cd player over the american dj one.

NO NO NO NO NO - DON'T BUY SONY HEADPHONES
unless it's the 7506s. All the other models break without fail.

If you don't believe me, then check the headfones thread.

sony is an example of that... they pay the djs to use those headphones

thanks shawn, but i think im gonna start with vinyl before i invest too much money. does everyone agree that technics 1200s are the way to go? i can get 1200mk3d's for about $200 a piece brand new, this sounds like a really good deal but i jsut want to get the input of a few veterans, so that i dont get screwed. i also need a mixer, what is a good one to start out with? do i need BPM counters? i heard that BPMs are good to have when you are starting out. I would like to get quality equiptment so that i dont have to buy a "starter" mixer only to try and sell it and buy another one, id rather just get it all now. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks alot guys!!!

well im not a vinyl dj but i have bpm counters on my cd players, and i use them everytime i beatmatch. well i dont think there are turntables that have bpm counters, so the only thing left is the mixer. if it were me, i wouldnt trust the bpm counters on the mixer bcuz their never that accurate. but if you want a mixer with bpm counter, u should get the american dj mixer, i cant remember wat its called, i think its qmix 2 or something like that. btw, thats the only mixer i know that comes with bpm counters, their might be more but i dont know. so just see watever u can find.

i wouldnt trust any bpm counters and even if u had accurate ones its likely if u play out at a club that the club wont have them so its best just to take the old practice makes perfect method with beatmatching

I read up on the lesson given on http://www.recess.co.uk/ but had a question on pitch control.
"When you line up and start the 130BPM tune at 0 pitch, you'll notice that the bass beats will start to run loose, and very quickly go out of time. So, what you need to do is increase the pitch of the tune with 130BPM's. You have a choice, you can either roughly set the pitch fader to a point on the scale, let the record play, and see if you've gotten anywhere near the increase you needed, or you get out your calculator, and work out what %age you'd have to increase a 130BPM tune to be running at around 135BPM (just under 4% - I just did it)."

Well, its been a while since I took algebra, and I suck at math anyway.
What is the equation he used to get a 4% pitch increase?

Thanks for the help!
