music should be a deciding factor in relationships as it defines who you are

arguments? yes? no?

my gf and i generally have the same taste in music. bob marley, sublime, red hot chili peppers, nirvana, beatles, etc. and i mean i got my trance and breakbeat, which she isn't really into. but it doesn't matter. we love each other enough that she can put up with some of my music, and i can respect the fact when she doesn't want to hear it. it works.

i completely agree pat.

and damn, you have some good taste in music!

(bob marley, sublime, red hot chili peppers, nirvana, beatles)

i like all those, and other stuff, hendrix, matthew good band, i mother earth, the doors, and some harder stuff, tool, a perfect circle, NIN, etc.

you have to be open minded. although, i think a line can be drawn. if your potential mate HATES the music, then that will make it really hard. like i have this one friend, he's an eminem fan, and he just hates electronic music, of all kinds, and always needs to point out (no one listens to techno) i don't think i could go out with him if he was a girl even!

but if he was just neutral about it, it would be ok.

I think it's shallow to choose a woman that way, my gf likes some trance and some stuff I wouldn't touch, but she doesnt like hardstyle like i do so it works both ways

My best friend is actually the total opposite to me, into rock music & shit, but me & her dont argue over music like we do on the forums, so in a way it helps to be different

anyway.. i disagree, me and my girlfriend are totally opposite. she likes to build crafts out of construction paper, cards, scrapbooks and stuff. I like to take a stick and light it on fire and swing it around like a madman. i like to go to raves with thousands of people, she gets uncomfortable around more than 3 or 4 people at once. I am very trusting, she is not.. the list goes on.

our differences compliment each other, we make a good team.

we do agree on music however though, we both LOVE trance. I spin records while she sits on the couch and bounces to the music, or makes crafts in another room of our house.

honestly if she didn't like trance, it would annoy me, but it's no reason not to be with someone, (or to dump them). there was a time in my life when i listened to music she hated, (koRn, limp bizkit, deftones, marilyn manson) we survived, i just listened in private.

I see what you are saying there. You both like trance - and it compliments your relationship - thats what I was getting at.

And BTW - I dont like hard house coz I think it is an immature sound and it is has no melody. Melody is what moves me. The hard dance music I like is techno and hard trance - because it isnt just a senseless banging of kickdrums with an offbeat bassline (IMO)

i'd like to think that i listen to trance b/c of my 'special' personality. i think alot of people who listen to trance 'think' in a certain way... but..

i'd have to say the latter. we've all been listening to shite b4 we discovered trance (which has only gotten popular in the last 10 yrs or so and is still evolving). it is a lifestyle, there is no other way.. yup i'm addictEd!

Doesn't it sound a bit arrogant to say that we're special/superior because of our musical taste? We're just different, that's all

Hm I would date someone if they didn't like trance, but we'd have to have some similar music taste. Otherwise, I'd just go mad. There is only soo much country you can tolerate before you break the cd

i wonder if im one of the few or only ta who's a rapper

well, im certainly not a rapper. but i do in fact write down lyrics every now and then. helps me get stuff off my chest.

as for the actualy thread... my girlfriend basically HATES trance music. she does tolerate it however. and she loves me for who i am, no matter how much i love music. plus, she respects my love and even comes out to clubs with me and goes crazy to songs that i play int he car all the time. like at pvd she went nuts to fucking society... and i love her more than anything in the entire world... we do fight over trance sometimes.. but everyone fights over some things.

i don't think that i would be able to either because music is such an important part of my life - especially trance. if someone didn't at least respect my music, it would never work
