House parties suck, well in anyway L.A. I would spin, and people would come up to me and say "Can you play Hip-Hop?" Usually happens when I am on my third or fourth record.

Oh believe me, he tried but I guess he didn't realize that his jungle records were 45s naturally. The thing that really got me was he said he had been djing for "6 or 7 years". Now I'm not a jungle fanatic, but I sure as shit know what a baaaaaaad trainwreck sounds like, I've been spinning for barely a year and I could do better. Shit, I slowed down one of his records and matched it to Max Graham-Sepia, and it sounded pretty decent..

I'm amazed no one asked me to play hip hop, everyone seemed to dig the trance/prog sound. The only thing that was annoying as fuck was the house had a drum set right next to where I was, and every stupid person tried to keep along with the records but failed miserably.

that would piss me off to no end
i couldn't imagine trying to mix while some drunk fuck is banging away on the drums
i would've asked the owner to put them away before the party started

Yeah, it really fucked with my beat matching sometimes. Luckily my friend stood right next to me and got any kid off the drums...almost got into 2 or 3 fights because of it...

My friend hosted the party, and his dumbass roomate who owned the drums came down and played on them too...but he was alright, he at least kept up the beat and sounded good. It was the drunk frat boys fucking around.

I am sorry, but i am sick of hearing from every whino in the world asking for hip hop. I hate crap-hop, and i hope all those losers get over the soldout, overplayed genre. On a different note, i had a crazy idea about how Hip-hop was legit, cool, underground music, and some how turned into the "thing" to listen to. I was reading abouts guys were into their hiphop and valued it as much as we value our underground trance. Do you think that trance will ever be completly sold out and be the thing to listen to?

I just played my first set with vinyl on a small party. Beatmatching on my headphones went really well, no problem. But when I started mixing... it just sounded very different from the sound I usually hear in my bedroom while I'm mixing... Maybe it was just the crap sound system we used.
But I soon got used to it, and I played a nice set. The people liked it, so I was confident.

And I learned one thing: I'll never spin again without a monitor.

My first house party was awesome, I played funky house/techno, it was great. I'd do it again any time. I played first, then my friend went on and played hip-hop, and the dance floor cleared. I love hip-hop, but it was just that he wasn't mixing or anything, it was like a wedding DJ. He played underground shit though, not like commercial stuff. People started leaving, so I asked him to throw on some instrumentals and I rhymed over 'em and people seemed to enjoy it, so it was all good.

thats cool, you see over here the dance floor would get pumping for hip hop and not trance. For some reason the girls dont dance to trance. But i dont have that much expierence with playing trance at house parties.
