WTF was Tiesto playing !? It could only be described as Hard Tek-House. Dark heavy bass all night. Not what you expect from him AT ALL. Luckily Hardwick played the best 2 hour set of uplifting trance I have heard in many a moon to save the day... is Tiesto trying to tell us something ? He finished up with GTR-Mistral, but other than that I thought he was AWFUL. And, as a big fan, thats not something I say lightly ...

Anyone know if Hardwicks sets get listed anywhere on the net ?

When I saw him on boxing day his set was terrible - I think its because he was put on very late, therefore had to play some harder stuff.

I WANT THE OLD TIESTO BACK.............. when his sets went Prog' trance --> Trance -->Tech-trance --> a cheeky bit of techno.

Re: Re: WTF is Tiesto playing at !?!?

ooo dear it appears war has broken out

Didn't mean to sound that negative about Tiesto. My whole enjoyment of the night was dampened by the GC environment. The production quality of the night was poor at best, the sound system in Heaven ain't that great, and it was just toooo crowded to be honest.

I should also qualify, Friday night was the first time I've ever seen Tiesto play live. I only knew his earlier style by buying his old vinyl tracks at the time, though I never saw him playout then.
Yes DJs can vary their style, but in so doing you can never please all of the people all of the time (refer to heated arguments above for proof )

imho it's a classic case of top DJ going "off on one", exactly as Jules did once he'd made enough money/got a big enough rep. Then they know they can play what they want to, rather than responding to general consensus. I'm not saying this is a good/bad thing, just the way it seems to go.

Tech trance is fine if you're totally off your face, but to be honest, I've had 100times better nights at hard trance/hard house clubs DJ'd by London locals.

The vibe just wasn't there for me that night, too much of an eclectic mix of people.

Just my 2p.

Well he is the number 1 dj because the ppl voted for him!!!

and why voted the ppl for him??

because he performaned great sets..

and btw of course u execpt trance @ gatecrasher but blame the managers who booked a dj who not just plays trance!!
I don´t think he need to change his style just for pleasing the gatecrasher ppl!

I'm far from a hater. Love his stuff. Or maybe I should say I love his "old" style. Hardwick has left him for dust based on recent plays - FOR ME. So yeah, as you say, move on - I'll chase Matty around instead - go where you enjoy yourself, its all that matters ...

and im sorry, but i really dont know what your getting at about gatecrasher. But one thing i DO know, is that over the last year and a half, tiesto wasnt pulling in crowds like he is now, before he got voted number 1 DJ

It seems from this thread that it's the Tiesto lovers who can't back up their arguments, not the other way around. Most negative reports are coming from people who're reffering to specific issues on specific nights, rather than the "he's #1" coming from the other camp.

Food for thought: The fact that he was voted worlds Number One DJ means that he is most popular and nothing else. TATU are at number 1 in the UK charts at the moment because they are the most popular, not the most talented.

Personally I don't think he's all that bad. He went a bit off-track last year and his mixing isn't the best but last time I saw him he was amazing, and I listened to the first 2 hours of his set at Gatecrasher last night and it sounded mint.

But if you're going to have an opinion, at least attempt to back it up. "he's world number 1" and "you just hate him coz he's popular" do absolutly nothing to back up any argument

Isn't it ironic that when Tiesto was playing Trance back in 2000(and was indeed the BEST dj in the world), people in UK have been listening to progressive and didn't give two shits about him. Now that Tiesto brought Trance back to UK clubs, but has changed his style, people in UK still don't give two shits about him. I guess it has to do with the fact that people in UK generally prefer UK DJs.

Tiesto is fuckin' responsible for bringing Trance back. When a #1 DJ Paul Oakenfold has stopped playing Trance, Tiesto continued doing so. I doubt Trance would be as popular these days if it wasn't for Tiesto.

You still seem confused by the popular/talente issue. Back your opinion up with something other than public opinion.

By your reckoning, DJ Sammy makes better tunes than Flutlict coz he's sold more tunes.

Tiesto was hugely popular in Gatecrasher a long time ago mate. And Gatecrasher were playing trance long before he turned up. Bought trance back to UK clubs? Stop quoting mixmag

Paul van Dyk played in front of 1 million people at LP. Just for that reason, does that mean that PvD is better than Tiesto then? (which he clearly is anyway, but thats another debate.)
