I watched "City of God" like a month ago. Very good movie, I loved the way it was made. |
me too.. another Brazilian one you may like [it's a bit mellow, but I loved it 'Behind the sun', came out last spring/summer]
TranceGeek, I'm pretty sure this one isn't in 1600s haha, it's about a couple of shady guys who want to rob a casino in Monte Carlo, or rather its art reserves. Coming out.. let me check.. APRIL 4th.. wanna catch it in Montreal with Ortemy before Kleinenberg @ Sona haha
The one you were refering to is probably [though I haven't seen it, seems like] La Veuve de Saint Pierre, or The Widow of St. Pierre

oh fuck, you're right, it was The Widow of St. Pierre!! haha, no shit i couldn't remember what it was called, i barely paid any attention to it... trust me, you didnt miss anything, i only watched the whole thing cuz of Kusturica... but now I remember reading about The Thief somewhere I just mistook one for the other (my mind must've wandered off to south west medittaranian again)... lol, but yah, sounds good, let's catch it in Montreal... only I heard that in Quebec all films are with french voiceovers and not subtitles? ... anyways, Ortemy, do you have reduced cover hookups for movies too?
speaking of Brazil, have you two seen "Central Station"? umm, disturbing movie, but amazing none the less...

oops.. right. OK, then, I'm sure there are some theatres in Montreal that might subtitle it. And I think it might be a good movie to catch, if it comes out in Montreal that weekend.

i'd rent it out again if i were you, it's worth it...

No, I haven't even heard of it. What's it about? |
personally, it's my all time favourite film... it came out about 10 years ago, and it's directed by Ron Fricke... it's not a movie as in the general sense, it's more like an experience... i've seen it countless time so far, and every time is more mindblowing then the last... last time i was in montreal (in nov, '02), they were showing it in one of the theaters, check the listings, you might catch it there, if not, rent it out... it's a must see...

Baraka is a documentary.. I don't even know how to explain what about.. patterns for sure. It doesn't have a narration, it's just a collage of images about.. life.. consumerism, industrialism, different cultures, places, religious rituals, nature..
You know what irritated me, though, the locations were not identified as the film went on, and though you can figure some out, others are puzzling. But I think there was a legend at the end
