Very well put itika. I think that is so true about local DJs having the edge over the local crowd. As much as I respect and enjoy our local DJ talent, drop them say in the UK and I can guarantee you they'll have a tough time getting the crowd going.

Thing is, local DJs have a following in their hometown. People that have come to appreciate their musical tastes and style of play over a period of time. These people come out week in and week out to see them spin because they know what to expect. However, they would face the same difficulty as international DJs that come here if they were to play elsewhere. Reading a crowd isn't something you can really do before you drop the first track. Being that the DJ has probably only brought a condensed record box - there's not much they can do if the crowd isn't into what they've brought. Also add in the fact that some clubs/events sometimes ask the DJs to play to a certain style that fits in with the theme of the night. I know for a fact Jules and other DJs have played tracks here that they wouldn't be able to get away with back home. But I guess for them its nice to play those tracks and get a reaction. For example Tiesto dropping Flight 643 in Toronto in Dec. Crowd went crazy and understandably. But dropping that back home, would gotten him much less of a response. For us its a treat to hear Tiesto play that while back home they expect more than a track from three years ago that they've probably heard to death. Its much easier for them to test out new material on local crowds than to come over here and gamble. So I can see why they'd play a lot of familiar tracks, anthems etc.

So you really have to fault on the side of DJs not knowing what to expect when they travel to different cities. Credit to those DJs who can come in and get the crowd going. That is the sign of a superstar DJ (for lack of a better term).

I'm not so sure about that. A while back Mark Scaife was openning up for PVD and he liked him so much that he brought him back to Germany to open up for him the next 3 parties, and he's openning up for him here again.

The bottom line is, if someone is good, they'll be good anywhere, be it if they're playing locally or internationally.

Yepz, it was Scaife. He opened for PvD the first time I saw him in the Warehouse.
