yeah madd props to TASO for letting us even have it up there...he set up everything, and it WAS an amazing time. a BIT chilly and windy...but other than that, couldn't complain WHATSOEVER!!! (Taso's an ILLLLLLLLLLLL DJ btw ) Felt graced by TAE and AKKOs presence as well.

Taso's sposed to move out of that location soon though...so not sure if we will get the chance to have another (bigger) bbq there but yeah that would be SO SICK!!!

wow, coming from you, thats QUITE the COMPLIMENT thank you!!! I'll be sure to link Drew to this thread!!!

yeah i actually broke down and decided to get one back in December. I have been a bit lax in learning it, Drew has actually been using it more. But def a LONG way to go with regard to skills etc. Just to hold the CAMERA still enough for a shot is a challenge at times, besides all the other factors. We only have a basic outfit with regard to the Rebel XT. We are lacking in the necessary equipment (aka a proper flash (right now we are extremely limited in the type of pics we can take), wide lens, macro lens etc.). But we will...someday.

I had actually posted up a set of pics he took with the dSLR during our trip to San Diego awhile ago. Maybe ill relink them sometime and you can give us some pointers. ^__^

lol oh i mean thanks for the compliments but i am nothing close to what u wrote about lol.
anyway, dont care about flash, the camera flash is way enough for most situations, i cant remember a moment where i could have said: "i cant get a reasonable picture without my external flash. iso, apperture and longer shutter speed always leave u enough room. to heavy flash just kills the athmosphere in the pics anyway...

and dont trust the typical cheap salesman rule. expensive extra ordinary tools = extra ordinary pics. if u are not able to make decent pics with ur normal equipment, the same or even worse will happen with higher equipment. anyway, thats totally not the case here how i see... so for the begining there is imo really just one advise that makes sense. pick it everywhere u go in your freetime and shoot shoot shoot, u dont have to pay film or developing anything. so shoot the f*ck out of ur slr, cauze it only cost a press of a button. try to develope a kind of view for perspectives and compositions that way... to maybe even get a few pictures that are able to give a message to the observer without any explanation at all. but thats not necessary yet imo...
just get used to the cam as a tool to convert your creativity into frames...

yes we have been experimenting with different modes etc. there is SO much to learn just from that alone. i agree with you, the default flash that comes WITH the camera is WAY TOO HARSH/washes out the picture for most situations and sometimes it requires a softer touch to it such as using the light from the wall to diffuse it/bounce off when indoors etc etc. thats what i mean, i rather NOT use the flash at all -- true -- and so far the results have not been half bad. =) i was actually thinking of a Speedlite 430EX which is last yrs model but its of reasonable price and i can adjust it to preferences would only use it indoors if necessary...

so you don't use a Flash when shooting indoors?

anyway i was having so much fun using my point and shoot when on vacation last yr, it got to the point where i realized there were limitations to it.

i do! but if the shootings are because of the look (whats on mostly clients the case) i try to bounce it as much as i can to get more natural lighning...
