Yeah I too feel that the +4/-3 'rule' is not really a 'rule' and more like a 'good probability' choice. When using +4/-3 I find that only half the time do the mixes actually sound good.

A lot of it depends on the sounds in the track not to mention scales used. Agreed, it's more a guideline than a rule. Although if using the Camelot method if you do jump up 4 you are technically using that note's harmonic. It tends to work better if the incoming track is not that busy at that point.

You can never escape the fact that you still need to know your records but see this as a short cut to knowing them.

Cheers
Nem

PS
Not trying to bash Tiesto or anything, but have you guys heard the latest In Search of Sunrise? There are some real clangers there in terms of harmonics but the tracks always lift which is sometimes more important.

Hey there,

Basically if you go to the Camelot Sound website you will find all the answers you are looking for, not to mention the fact that DJ Prince also has some good stuff on his site.

All the 12a and so on represent are basic keys. They have just made finding the compatible notes easier to find so that you don't really have to be that heads up on music theory.

In other words if you have a song in C#m 12# it is correct to assume that a G#m 11a or a F#m 1a would mix nicely with it. It's just basically to make the burden on music theory as low as possible.

Just have a look at some of the lists on this thread and pick out a few tracks that you have (assuming that you do) and try the different combinations. You will soon see what we are talking about.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards
Nem

I'm not sure what the Keys are,

Interstate - I Found You (Original Mix)

and

Josh Gabriel - Alive (Club Mix)

Both mix PERFECLY into each other, especially if you start mixing in Alive after the first breakdown at the beginning of interstate, you get a really uplifting mix..very nice!!
