I'm somewhat curious about this "problem," because I don't really see it. He's not trying to convince you he's good, and I've never seen him use the "everyone likes me so I'm awesome" line to defend himself to critics. Occasionally he'll poke fun at them, but if he ever says anything serious its always basically the same thing: "I like what I'm doing and lots of other people like it too, so I'm happy, and I'm not going to let a bunch of people on a forum ruin it for me." Is that really such a bad attitude?
What would you guys like him to do in response to one of these threads? Apologize for making/playing music you don't like? |
I think you're probably right to correct me - unfortunately people like Deadmau5 are in a bit of a catch 22, "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation, so at the very least his responses are leagues above many others, and the fact that he has generally stayed above the level of petty insults or overreactions definitely speaks highly to his character.
In fairness, though - I do think that writing off every "critic" like this:

leave it to trance addict to throw in mozart, danny howells, the bernstein bears, the mother fuckin easter bunny and some ninjas for good measure, into some thread made up of 99.9% "whine" because some self proclaimed "critics" don't like what i want to do with my music.

...sells a lot of the good points people made in this thread very short all in the name of playing defense.
