Texas is the latest state to see oil washing up onto its beaches. Officials there confirm that the tar balls that were first spotted on Galveston's beaches over the weekend are from the blown-out Deepwater Horizon well in the Gulf of Mexico.
Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson said crews removed tar balls that washed up on the Bolivar Peninsula and on Galveston Island.
"Clearly I'm alarmed at the revelation that some tar balls had been positively identified as being from Deepwater Horizon," Galveston Mayor Joe Jaworski said. "It's not a good thing."

So why was this blocked yesterday?
[DeMint] happened to be on the floor when a Democratic Senator introduced the bill for a voice vote. DeMint was told by GOP leadership aides (earlier) to hold up the bill because leadership hadn't had a chance to read it.
But now that the leadership has read the bill and decided it has no objections, it will move forward if a Dem asks again for it to be passed by unanimous consent.
Don Stewart, a spokesman for Mitch McConnell, confirms that the leadership has no objections to the bill. "I don't know of any objections," he says. "What I do know is that there is bipartisan support."
Sheesh. He was just respecting the absent leadership's wishes and holding it off until they had a chance to read it too. There's total bipartisan support to pass that measure now. Unlike the Dem's, some people actually want to read all the fine print on legislation before passing it.

Tar balls are fairly common in the gulf. There is a lot of oil drilling and oil is spilled, often in small amounts that can collect and form tar balls.
Also there are natural leaks from the pools of oil under the surface.
His statement, while sounding stupid, made sense in the context of the gulf of mexico.

What you just said basically proves my point and, in fact, makes him sound more stupid than before...
- Oil, in some amount or another, leaks all the time and tar balls form and wash ashore constantly. Totally commonplace.
- Oil from this spill has formed into tar balls and washed ashore.
- Guy is surprised that spilled oil has washed ashore.
Am I missing something here?

It was never predicted/expected to, sure. Having said that, we've all seen how well predictions/expectations have held up during this whole ordeal. I'm sorry, but as far as I'm concerned, if you're on the coast of a small body of water with a massive oil spill in it, then you shouldn't be surprised if you see some of it. It's just common sense.
