My two cents. The majority of people are far too desensitized and slow, as proven by this thread, to fully grasp how rooted in ideology their lives are. Either that or power is far too removed from them to actually do anything about the status quo or prevent disaster as it's happening.

In this case, is it disgusting? Of course, but then who do we cast the blame to? The corporate sponsor for doing what they do or the event organizer for basically selling out? These things are complicated and will take time. Capitalism fucked everything up.

Edit: All of this without taking into consideration the fact that it might be too late already anyways.
