There's a Colangelo interview on Eric Smith's blog where he says that they'll be able to bring back Delfino on his bird rights so that it doesn't count towards the mid-level at all....so they can sign Delfino and still have the whole mid-level as well as bi-annual exception to use....and by the sounds of it he's got a few more big things brewing....it seems like we're in a way better spot right now to really make a splash....hate on BC all you want (PETER! HAH) lol...jk....but fuck....he was on the ball with this one....what he just pulled off puts us in the best case scenario moving forward....better than the best case scenario actually....probably along the lines of rabbit out of a hat.

interesting...

Is it the case that because of the sign-and-trade scenario, the Raps had enough cap room to sign Turkoglu without having to renounce Delfino? (because if they did renounce him, I understand they lose the option to sign him and exceed the cap under the Bird rule)

if that's the case, wow...brilliant.

Yep this is exactly what i read on espn.com yesterday.
It mentioned how they went from thinking they were going to renounce their rights to Delfino
to being able to easily re-sign him if they chose to.

Adding Jefferson was a big move and now adding a big, mean body down low to work with Duncan just might put them over the top. Only chance the Lakers have is Bynum playing for 75+ games next season so he can solidify his game.

I still wouldnt forget about Boston.
Old, ya of course..but Garnett healthy and picking up Rasheed..
Lets not forget, WITHOUT Garnett they only lost in 7 to the eventual Eastern conference champion.
I think we can agree that Garnett is not just a small cog in the Boston machine.
Its too early to predict and i'm not saying they WILL win but...they're right there

Ivan! still a Raptors fan over there?

Indeed, Doug Smith mentioned that in an article tody as well. They didn't have to renounce Delfino, so he can sign for whatever. Rasho and the team expressed a mutual desire for him to come back, so I wonder if it's a just matter of talking numbers and it's going to happen.

Give credit where credit is due. It was some guy from finance that came up with the idea to bring Orlando in which put us in the current situation (heard it on the radio yesterday). Now they have the MLE, LLE and they can still pick up Delfino (unless he changed in Euro, I still think it's a useless move). I'm pretty sure that's the situation now.

Somebody mentioned on another forum that we should grab either Nate Robinson or Josh Childress with the MLE and Rasho with the LLE. I like the idea of Childress coming over here. Nate wouldn't be bad as a 6th man either. And as you guys mentioned it's almost a given that we're getting Rasho back. I dunno how I feel about that.

We have the mid-level again next year as well. So we can add a mid-level this year, and another mid-level next year. In this environment the mid-level has essentially turned into what used to be the $8-9mil contract. If Bosh stays, we add two solid mid-level players, factor in next year's draft....shit.

Raptors signing Jarrett Jack to offer sheet
Posted on: July 11, 2009 6:28 pm

LAS VEGAS -- The Toronto Raptors are on the verge of signing Pacers restricted free agent Jarrett Jack to an offer sheet, CBSSports.com has learned.

Terms of the deal aren't yet apparent, but Jack, 25, would be a younger, faster replacement for Anthony Parker, who has agreed to a two-year deal with Cleveland. As a versatile combo guard, Jack would back up point guard Jose Calderon and also see time at the scoring guard spot. Once Jack signs the offer sheet, the Pacers have seven days to match.

Not too sure I like this very much. BC could swing a trade a for a solid back up pg more than likely...maybe someone like Keyon Dooling and use the mid-level to bring in another high quality player. I would even prefer signing Nate Robinson to Jarrett Jack...I think he would be much more dynamic coming off the bench and give the Raptors second unit a really nice look. I guess it comes down to money though...interested to see how much this offer is going to be worth.

I agree that it depends on the money. I hope Doug Smith is talking out of his ass when he says it could be a 4 yr deal totaling 16 mil or more.

I like Jack and think he's a bit underrated...plus he is can easily play both G positions, so he would bolster a thin backcourt bench. Definitely not on the level of Nate, but I'm guessing he would cost too much and want more minutes than he'd be likely to get in Toronto.

so Jack played with Bosh in college? I can't help but wonder if that's just a happy coincidence, lol!

Nate would definitely have more of an impact on offense but Jack brings some intangibles to the team that Nate couldn't; mainly his relationship with Chris Bosh. I'm almost certain Colangelo knew exactly what he was doing when he made the offer.

i agree with u mark that jack is underrated. he is actually a solid guard

the only thing with nate is at 5'10" he's a defensive liability like all small guards who have played in this league

no way!

He blocked Yao Ming!

He jumped over Dwight and dunked on him on all-star weekend!

I bet he could guard the low post better than Bargs, Bosh, and Evans combined!
