you know what nou and just to shut you up about how suicide's always hurt the fmaily and the people around I think I will tell you a lil story from my own personal experience. I dont tell many people about this. it recently happened to my family and I really shouldn't be sharing this on a public forum. However, I want to shine some light on you.
My grandmother recently died the other month and by definition she took her own life and thus committed suicide. At the age of 86. It all started with a cancer scare. She was hospitalized for a few weeks because they found something in her liver. She ended up giving up her house thinking she could no longer take care of it and sold all of her furniture. It ended up that it was nothing but a scare and the cancer has been present for 9 years and laid dormaint in her liver. She was released form the hospital and now had no home because she gave up the lease. She movedin with my aunt, but after a 2 months felt very uncomrfotable being there as she has always been independent and felt like a burden on my aunt. She checked herself into an old folks home. Things were going well in there for the first 2 weeks, when all of a sudden depression hit. She began starving herself knowing very well she had diabetes and this would most liley kill her. She hadnt eaten anything in weeks and called to talk her son, my father. She told my dad shes 86 and has lived a full life. SHe has nothing left to live for. All of her friends are dead and all of her family and siblings. She was the last one. She has seen all her grandchildren grow up and her children, and they no longer need her. She did not want to wait to die in a old person's home and was starving herself. Well at fiorst my father just thought she was crying for attention and let it be. Until we got a call that she entered into a diabetic coma from not eating. She came out of the coma and asked to see my father. So of course my mother and him, jumped on the next flight to italy. They met up with her, and played it off like they were there for vacation. The last 2 days of my grandmothers life was left spending time with her 2 children remisnicing about the good ol days, laughing and tears. She finally passed away after starving herself for 2 months with nothing but IV giving her nutrients. She died from complications from her diabetes.
She lived to be 86 years old. lived a full life. She was a person who always did what they want when they wanted. It was only suiting she would decide when she wanted to die. I am not god but she had nothing wrong with her other then diabetes, she could have lived for more years to come. She was a strong woman and knew when she her job here was done. She hasnt left any of the family in shambles. I am quite proud of her for how she dealt with it. If I live to 90 and i have nothing left, no meaning, no purpose, no more friends, no more family i too hope I am strong enough to know when too call it quits.
It was a peaceful passing and we grieved like we grieved when my other grandparents passed. It was a bit different of a death but it was very noble, and truly defined her personality. She felt she lived her life to its fullest and was ready to pass. My family is not in shambles over it and life went on. That takes strength and courage to me. Her last days she was afriad of pasisng in her sleep alone and would ask my parents to stay with her. She wasn't escaping a hell for her own self she just felt it was time. I don't know how that feeling is like I'm not 86 years old nor do i think i will ever reach that age, few people do. |
Wow, thats not suicide though.
There is a big difference between your grandma dying and the family knowing about it and being there and a parent not hearing from their son or daughter for a long time and worrying and their friends worrying and then finding their child dead in a bathtub bloated and decaying from not being found for a week after they slit their wrists.
My grandfather also went out like your grandma, I mean in the way that the family had time to be around him and we were all there for his death and it was a somber occasion but we knew that he had passed and that was that, he coulda taken more meds to keep his heart going for a while longer but there wasnt a point. Thats not suicide though, not even close.
Your view of suicide is pretty rosy if that is what you think of it.
