You obviously don't know what the problem is... making a decision based on video footage is totally forbidden, sure there are other instances where they use that video to give sanctions to other players, but they do so AFTER the game, not during the game.

Just to make it short, if refs used video footage to send Zizou off, each and every team will start complaining about how other refs haven't used this type of technology in other games... which in the end will create a chaos as any team will have the right to demand the ref to use video footage, since the refs at the WC final are creating a precedent. That's why there has been a lot of controversy after the finals, because of what happened and the lack of clear information from FIFA.

Paranoikos, I never said or used Zidane's red card as an excuse, Italy won it fair and square and right now in my opinion they are the best team of the world, based on them winning the WC, simple as that.

Cup competitions aren't supposed to determine the best side. Liverpool were crowned Champions of Europe but finished 5th in the Premier League, Greece won Euro 2004 but failed to even qualify for the 2006 World Cup. The very nature of a cup competition is that any team with a good run of form and a bit of luck on their side can win it. Italy got to the semi-final by beating Australia and Ukraine, that's about the easiest run you could possibly ask for, they then scraped past Germany in the last minute of extra time and beat France on penalties. Yes, they won it, and well done to them, but to suggest they're the best in the world or were even the best in this tournament is a joke IMO. That is the nature of a cup competition, that is why Greece won Euro 2004 and that is why Italy won this World Cup.

For me the best team was probably France. They struggled in the group stage but after that they cruised past Spain, embarrassed Brazil, saw off Portugal and outplayed Italy. As for the best team in the world right now, I'm not sure. I was expecting a lot more from Argentina but their manager messed everything up at a crucial moment for them. Once again the South Americans struggled in Europe.

I dont think France were great either. Cruised past spain is a bit OTT. They got the 2nd goal with 10 minutes to go in very dubious circumstances.

Brail were shit and portugal couldnt score in a brothal. No team really stood out as the best. I think Italy deserve it though. They played well all the way through the tournament. I cant think of another team that would be worthy winners.

spain, brazil and portugal are tougher than any team italy had to face (other than germany).

Yeah, personally after what I saw in the cup I'd say the best team in the world right now is either Italy or Argentina. Brazil and France coming quite close too, maybe even Spain despite the bad 1/8 finals game. Then comes a group formed by Portugal, England, Germany, Holland and perhaps Mexico.

Italy were very very lucky they "won" against Australia, if Grosso hadn't dived in the last 7 seconds of the game it could have easily been a different outcome, and as for the Ukraine game i didn't watch it but i was told they were more evenly matched than the final result of 3-0 suggested.

Watch the slow motion clip below and see for yourself how the Australian defender places his left hand on Grosso's foot. That is a penalty, you cannot touch a player in the box especially after you already made a tackle and it failed. The ref was right there to see it and made the correct call.

Nonsense. One of the great myths of football. Fact is you can do anything in the penalty box that you can do on the rest of the pitch. The rules don't change once you get inside the area. Your own link shows there was no contact from Neill anyway, Grosso initiates any contact there is by trying to run through Lucas Neill in order to get a penalty. That's a yellow card for simulation, he makes no effort to lift his left leg, preferring to trail it over Neill's body in the hope Neill catches him (watch the video again, he doesn't), and then theatricalyl drops to the ground after entangling himself with the other player. The most ridiculous red card of the world cup. It wasn't even a good dive, I believe the referee had doubt in his mind and was trying to balance things up after sending off Materazzi earlier in the game. Some of the comments beneath the video make for hilarious reading, it's amazing how differently people can view a football match.

It was a mistimed challenge from Neill, he missed both the ball and the player. Grosso knew his touch was too heavy and the closing defender was going to smash it into row Z so he went for the penalty.

Why is there a outline of the penalty box then? Your claim that you can do the same in the penalty box as on the pitch is nonsense. The Aussie defender grabbed Grosso's foot with his hand and the ref called it like he should have because he saw it.

If it would have happened outside the penalty area it would be a free kick, in this case because it was in the penalty box it was a penalty kick. Simple.
