I'm so glad this thread exists. Damn we are really that old aren't we.

Two girls here, 3 and 1. The toddler is a huge Underworld fan already, likes some Aphex, and could listen to LFO - LFO on repeat all day. Trying to get her into Sasha and Digweed, we're getting there. Most recently jungle has been popular. The baby will bounce to anything.

How do you fellow parents still go out? The prospect of heading out for a night sounds exhausting and exhilarating in equal measure. My body is not ready.

Figure the least I can do is pass on the music to the next generation. Makes my heart all warm reading others are doing the same.

It's not really a big deal. I was already fairly selective about which events to attend so it's not like I was out all the time anyway. Now it's more about the time away from my family. I still NEED to go out, but it's definitely a huge endeavour the older I get in general. The driving more than anything is what kills me. Especially when I just want to be home in bed when a party is over lol.

A crew of us are going to go to Defected's 10 year in Croatia in 2026. Those of us with kids/families will be bringing them along and planning trips around it.

I dunno. It's not really much of a change once you get settled into life with kid(s)/family. At least if you have a good support network etc. Again, it's just the aging in general that slows things down.

camshaft, it looks like you're in Portland, as am I! Sup, neighbor. Two girls, 4 and 2 here.

I definitely go to far fewer parties than I did before, but it makes the parties that I do go to that much better. I'll typically only do the dance-'til-sunrise thing when it's an artist that's suuuuuper worth it, like Nobu at the Watershed earlier this year, Neel the other week, or DVS1 who's coming here soon. In the last decade, my tastes moved a lot more in the Chicago/NY House direction, and there are a bunch of great Sunday afternoon/evening parties at White Owl Social Club that go from like 2PM-10PM in the summer. I've caught Theo Parrish, Kai Alce, Marcellus Pittman, Move D, musclecars and a bunch of other stellar DJs there, the crowd's always amazing, I get to cut a serious rug and I'm always in bed by 11. I also don't drink or party as hard anymore, usually I just down an unholy amount of THC tincture, head to outer space and call it good, so no real hangover except for light brain fog.

For actual "me" time that's rejuvenating and peaceful, I backpack a bunch. I pick dates a few months in advance, tell my wife, and coordinate with other family to see if they wanna stop by and help her while I'm out. I'm fucking off to the Goat Rocks Wilderness next week for 3 days/2 nights by myself.

For "us" time, seize any opportunity you can to have someone watch the kiddos after they go to bed while you and your wife go to dinner. Doesn't even have to be fancy, just as long as it gives y'all the opportunity to connect, just the two of you.

When you've got kids as young as you do, finding time right now is hard, but as they age (especially as your 1yo turns 2+), you'll find that it's a lot easier to find time here and there.

Day parties yo!!! Party ends at 11PM (here in LA), and in bed by 12:30AM. Just enough sleep for when the kids (8 and 2) to wake me up at 6:30AM. Thankfully Bluey and Cocomelon will keep the youngest occupied while I sleep on the couch. The iPad is a hero for the oldest.

I got my oldest listening to Depeche Mode and Sasha when she was younger. She's figured out her own style now and it's Taylor Swift and Dua Lipa nowadays. I still have the youngest jamming to my 80s new wave though. Just a matter of time before she discovers her own though.

Thanks everyone, great advice all around. Encouraging to hear you all are still going out. I imagine it'll get less daunting as the kids get older too. Silky, love the idea of kids coming along one day, that's great.

No kidding, what's up idoru, I gotta get more plugged into the Portland scene. I had no idea that much was going on here besides Holocene and 45 East! Last time we went out here was Autechre in 2015 (which was a blast). Apparently Digweed was here last fall? Good advice on getting some quality time (alone and together), appreciate it.

And +1 for Bluey...great show haha.

Thanks for the encouragement. We just got tickets for Sasha and Digweed in September in Texas. Looks like up to a 5-hour set...can't wait! Top of my list for a worth-it late night (and making a trip), haven't seen them in ages.

It's gonna be a good show. We had a date night this past Saturday. Maceo Plex was a beacon of light for this old party animal.

My kid asked me two great questions this week.

1) "Do I have to go to college or university to be a scientist?"

2) "When does the world end?"

Got a letter from our our 3rd grade teacher stating that our (oldest) daughter is not at reading/writing grade level. Ughhhfff. She's good at match like her mama but her reading has always been a bit slow. We worked really hard to catch up last year and I was hoping for a good start to the school year.

On another note, the youngest (2.5 years) hasn't shit in about 3 days. She obviously doesn't take after her Daddy.

Prune juice twice a day and "P" fruits (pears, plums, peaches). That'll make her shit.

My boys, 2 and 5, enjoy listening to Sasha + Digweed Delta Heavy Tour sets in the car. They also seem to enjoy Hernan Cattaneo...

I love it. Sasha + Digweed are mainstays here too with our girls (4 and almost 2), usually via live sets on YouTube. When our preschooler sees Sasha behind the decks she points and says "look Daddy that's you!" Took me a minute to realize she sees a guy looking his age and receding hair and thinks "that looks like daddy."

They've gotten into Aphex and Underworld as well. I tried some Hernan but it was a little too intense - Perfecto Presents South America. I should try some of his more recent sets which are pretty chill.
