Just got back from my first time seeing Luke Fair spin (Sullivan Room, NYC)... and the first 2/3 of the set were the definition of "bringing the funk"... he got a bit deeper/melodic toward the end with a spectacular finale, too. Ian Pooley-My Kicks (Vincenzo and Lovebirds mix), then Milton Jackson-Crash (Lovebirds mix)
A little aside the "funk" side of music to focus on the more experimental side, here is Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC Radio 1 Experimental.
Her show is the real meaning of fresh music. Just listening to her show gives me hope because it proves that they are guys out there moving things forward, making real progression.
Bear in mind that the first track is far from being the best one so feel free to skip it.
Some of those tracks make me go mental (Floating Points - Esthian Three and the Beat Pharmacy tune). I've discovered so many great tunes almost every week on her show as opposed to ASOT or Club Life that I thought it would be great if I posted it here.

You lucky bastard, hopefully promoters get around to bring him down here some day...if not, I guess I'll better get down to WMC next year.
John Roberts - Bodywork
Hot Coins - Christmas day
The Mole - There´s hope
Mark E - Night Mover
San Proper & Steven De Peven - Huspers & Kletsers for Live
Rising Sun - B1 (Workshop 05)
6th Borough Project - The Formular (Dub Vibes)
Dplay - Tschaka
Motor City Drum Ensemble - A Side
Boola & Demos - Toon
Subway - CS 87
Nice catch Sam, never heard of that one before. Did it surfaced recently?

House was ooit house. Waar ongelovigen toch predikten “God made me funky, and I’m glad He blessed me this way”.

I think it's just been kept close to the chest by the promoters. *shrug*
