Nokia 6275i, the Solo Mobile phone I'll be getting for $50 (no contract) when it comes in.

I quite like it, too. Which is great. Because I dislike all the other Solo phones, save for the Krzr... but I'm not paying $300+ dollars for a phone!

Samsung i450

Verry, verry naice!!

Jesus this phone looks HOTT!

Word is out in the mobile community on the 3G-enabled ingenious Samsung i450, a dual slider running on Symbian OS - a reinforcer of the smart i-line of the company's portfolio. Let's remind you of the recently announced Samsung i620, powered by the Windows Mobile OS and sporting a sliding QWERTY keyboard. Both devices will meet the user demands for productivity as they differ only slightly from one another in features.

Samsung i450 is running on Symbian OS 9.2 Series 60 v3.1 operating system - such a decision is probably dictated by the popularity of this OS, compared to Windows Mobile OS. The new slider has a 262K color TFT display with a QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) resolution, the same 2 megapixel camera as in Samsung i620, and a second VGA video calls camera. The integrated memory is as large as 1 GB and is further expandable through a microSD memory card slot. Multimedia features are also at a decent level - you can choose among the available MPEG4, WMA/MP3/AAC and Flash players.

Other features of the Samsung i450 include Bluetooth v2.0, USB support, 3G and HSDPA connectivity and a peculiar speaker, which gets revealed when you slide the phone down (much like Nokia N95), probably boosting the sound of the video/audio player. A certain drawback is the lack of Wi-Fi, a feature spotted in Samsung i620.

There is still no official information of pricing and availability of the device.

That Nokia 6275i looks almost same (a little better) and similar features to the 6300 (pic below) from Fido. One is CDMA and other's GSM. I've got an older Nokia bar phone (3100), works great, very reliable.

The SOLO plans look very similar to Fido. I guess they are going after the same market - young non-business users. According to this page on Wikipedia SOLO was first competing with Virgin but now they have decided the main competition is Fido:

I've been using Bell ExpressVu for TV - their customer service in the last year is terrible, several billing screw-ups that took me months to get settled. Maybe the Bell empire is too big - they own SOLO.

Thanks for the comments.

EDIT:

Also note, I see on Fido's webpage that that phone without a Fido Agreement (contract) will cost you $300! Wow.

My phone normally would cost $200 (so its cheaper, and personally, I'm with you, I think it looks much nicer/cooler)... But a promo is on for the month of August, so without a contract (no Solo agreement), I'm getting the phone for only $50... which makes the phone even that much sweet, I tell you!!

And, yeah, hear this quite a bit from ppl on here, about Bell. (Though 3 ppl who I work with are with Bell and they have no complaints, I must note)...

So I have no idea if I am going to experience screw ups or not. But since I am not in any sort of contract w/ Solo, if I experience these screw ups, and they dont stop, I can decide at any point if the screw ups arent worth it, and switch back to Rogers prepaid again. I wont have to worry about cancellation preventing fees me from leaving if I get severly dissatisfied w/ my service. With the plan though I'm getting, the Student Talk & Text one, for 35$ with NO CONTRACT, I'm going to hafta be pretty annoyed I think though to leave Solo.

They only came out with the camera in a couple of them (Pearl & Curve as far as I know), to market to the younger/non-business crowd.

Me personally, I couldn't care less if it has a camera or not. I am quite content with the products RIM makes without the added feature of a camera.

I'm using the curve 8310 for work, and I've never used the camera at work, just push email. (which is fucking fantastic)

Still waiting for the individual licenses to come out. How much does it suck that the 17 year old beat them to it with the hardware vs software unlock and got his 15 minutes of fame.

I'll be picking up an iphone next week from buffalo once I see this unlocking in action.

Be Cool!

Called Solo Mobile's customer care/service line last night and today, and must say that I'm HIGHLY impressed with them from first impressions!

Wanted to add unlimited mobile browser ($5/month) and something else to my plan to try out, see what I thought, esp especially for the Java Gamil app, which looks VERY swanky and nice (for a phone access to email), esp compared to the mobile HTML version...

Anyways, got that done, had some good chats w/ the guy on the other end... hell we got into various Blackberry discussions, swapping cell phone stories, etc. etc.

Must have been a 20 min call, but only 4 was spent with me adding the 2 features I wanted.

Today, called to cancel one of the features, and again the guy was very personable on the phone, got my request done very quickly w/o any hassle and answered an additional query I had.

He also bumped my unlimited mobile browser add-on date back to the 27th, so that the unlimited usage was retro active (since he saw on my profile that I had some charges when I did some quick browsing 2 days ago before i decided to have the $5/unlimited plan put on.

Thought that was REALLY nice of him, totally something Solo didnt need to do, and I wouldnt expect a cellphone company to do.

Anyways, my first two encounters w/ customer service at Solo are amazing thus far.

Even though Bell owns Solo, I guess Bell's poor/horrible customer service rep doesnt trickle down to them. Thank god!

Also, worth commenting, though my reception from Bell (Solo = Bell) doesnt appear to be as good in Toronto as it did w/ Rogers (I only got 1 bar in many parts of TO, 2 at the most I think I noted), while Rogers I always had 3 or 4 everywhere),

it does appear that reception up here in Collingwood and area is better with Bell. Essentially the same # of bars everywhere here, save for when I'm in my basement... I get 2 bars w/ Bell (Solo) sometimes, at the worst 1!

With Rogers I only ever got 1 and often has "No Service" displayed on my cellphone at times...

So Bell's definitely winning out here in Collingwood reception-wise. EVERYONE it seems when ppl are over has problems getting reception in my damn basement... can't believe I'm not!! Awesome! ^5

Not that Rogers's reception up here (even in my basement), nor Bell's reception in Toronto, was something I would complain about, but just thought I'd comment on the strengths/weaknesses of both in these different locations.
