started exercising at the uni fitness center/gym yesterday with a couple of buddies- ends up they've been going there every day for the last couple months.
i'm pretty stoked about it, i was a little apprehensive about checking out the gym (even though it's free for students) so i just stuck with running outside; but since the weather is getting freakin cold i was concerned that i would stop running over the winter. now i'm getting an even better workout (and can actually start a decent routine) on a daily basis
tl;dr- exercising with others is a lot more entertaining for me than doing it alone. i feel more motivated to push myself.

Definitely. I'm all about going to the gym with a few guys I know, we've managed to keep it up for a few months so I hope it continues. Much easier to be motivated when you have people in it with you.

I used to go with a friend...and she wasn't dedicated to it like I was/am. She would always complain about wanting to lose weight, etc...yet never really went the extra mile to do anything about it. We'd be on the treadmill and she'd take off for 10 minutes to the bathroom and tell me she had diarrhea or something. Or she'd complain that her heart was palpitating or whatever the fuck so she could cut out early.
Like, look bitch, just admit that you're fucking lazy and stop fooling yourself. And stop defending/justifying yourself to me. I don't give a shit, lol.

I'm the only one in my group that actually runs or tries to maintain any sort of cardio outside of weight-lifting.

I don't think many people will agree with me, but I prefer to work out on my own. I started out going to the gym with my mates, but I found we'd spend too much time talking and joking about, and the workout would stretch for 1-2 hours. I know it's good because there's someone there to motivate you through those final reps, and I do miss spotting, but overall I found it an inefficient way to work out.
At home, I can do a whole routine in 30-40 minutes. There's no time wasted so I get a more intense, efficient workout where I can try new things and optimise what works for me.

I choose to work out alone. I can't stand waiting on people to hurry the fuck up and then listen to some shitty story I could care less to know. Only time this sucks is on chest days and I can't barbell bench as hard as I want to since I go to failure. Going to failure solo I would get killedz

Yay, lost three pounds because of my new diet in two weeks or so. I believe most of what I lost is fat, however, because I can clearly see my stomach shrinking away and my performance at the gym didn't get any worse.

So do I (though having company at the gym and seeing a friendly face when you're not working out are always good - working out with? Not so much). Running outdoors is a notable exception, and I hate to do that alone, but that's because I find it boring as hell

Yeah I generally tend to dislike the whole gym atmosphere and the majority of people in it. The sooner I get in and out, the better. Working out alone > *.

me also, i used to go to this one place that offered 24 hour access, so i would go at like, 3:30am before i went to work that morning and had the whole place to myself. the center i'm going to now was pretty god damned busy last night but there was an overabundance of machines and weights so i never had to wait for any machine or anything.
again i just like the whole motivational aspect of it. something about working with others makes me push harder. maybe it's a subconscious urge to try to outdo them

fair enough. i'm actually omw out the door now to go.
oh shit also, i've never seen this in an exercise facility but they got a huge basketball/volleyball area, and on the second floor surrounding the court(s) is a giant track pretty much for running. it's awesome. i would much rather run that then get on a treadmill and act like a hamster.
