I saw oakenfold in march (Ultra 5) and June 22 (Plush - Jacksonville, Florida)...I can definitely say that he played (for the most part) great sets and the crowd loved him. But I can also see that compared to his older stuff (circa '99) he is not a powerful force in trance music like he used to be. This could be attributed to several factors, and I would like to think that he is just simply getting older. Although continuing his career solely for financial gain is a possibility, I would rather believe that this is not likely given his dedication in the past to the music that we love. Either way, give the guy a break...he's done a LOT of badass sets

i was disappointed by oakie aswell,i've hated every single set i got my hands on in the past couple of years....his set at homelands 2003 tho, was suberb and then i saw him performing in athens in june,he was amazing.he enjoyed every single minute of playing there and his set was just beautiful.
IMO he's getting too old for this...but he's a living legend and should be at least respected...

So very true.. if I began to name all of them, we'd be here for a while.

pioneer in my mind. He made the most definitive disc that brought so many people to trance, the original TrancePort. I listen to his recent sets and i think he is heading into a "j jules" style, which is still primarily trance, only with influences from hip hop and the "pop party" theme.

But i haven't listened to his sets in a while. Didn't fit my search for new and fresh tracks. i mean, cmon, how many times can u listen to SStone's Seven Cities. great song, but paul, c'mon! find some new material! He opened the doorway for many tranceaddicts, but he's left his mark as a legend, he doesn't need to do anymore, but the more he does, the more we seem to hate him.

yes you've got it pretty much spot on

he was never a great technical DJ, but the music he played brought people into trance and got them hooked forever.

now he's lost touch with trance music and plays pop music to get a big crowd reaction from the general public, not trance fans.

which just makes us hate him. and he doesnt even attempt to mix anymore either it seems. he doesnt do dj sets now, he makes appearances

what are you basing that on dom? a few people picking up on the bad tunes he plays and not the good ones?
he's always played pop type tunes, the jennifer lopez tune during his peak stands out

yea Dom was being way too harsh but I don't think they called it the Oakey-Cokey back in the day for nothing hey if it wasn't for a magic little pill that night some 15-plus yrs ago in Ibiza he might have never come up with the inspiration to transport the balaeric sound to London....

read in a Ministry article 2 yrs ago he's now into personal nutrition, yoga, and all that 'new-age' stuff though

anyways i saw him at 'crasher Heaven in May, wasn't impressed, but his new disc looks ace, and he'll always be tops (at least sentimentally) in my book
