i'm not sure what "cleverly constructed track" means, i guess its open for interpretation. But as far as "layered" tracks goes, i think thats heavily influenced by the genre, i.e prog lends itself to these type of tunes well (like everyone was saying with Xpander, and stuff from holden and the like), even tribal house sounds good with layers over layers (though in a simpler construction). Trance though just gets "messy" with this type of production.

Most good trance songs are relatively simple with a catchy melody and a phat beat. Of course there are exceptions to the rule, Bt's 'trancier' tunes seem cleverly contructed to me (though this is prob because he pulling from many diff genres.)
