This right here, but I think it applies to most dogs. I've yet to meet a working Lab that didn't have an incredibly endearing personality and an abundance of energy - likewise, my parents have a Lab that had been used to the suburban life for most of her days; she's pretty dumb and literally lame (hip problems, because Labs), but she's still quite sweet.
Dogs doing what they are bred to do make an entirely different animal; they are -nearly without fail in my experience - healthier, more energetic, more loyal, more useful, and just overall better companions.
