rankings are silly. i would never look past the top 15 at most, that only indicating who the most popular DJs are at the moment and nothing else.
if they really wanted to compile a list that would rate the popularity of all DJs, they would need a more complex voting system, that allows for twice or more votes, and also allows one to rank these votes...then you might get an accurate reflection of the popularity of the 20, 80, or 150 DJ... after all the ones who are good but on the sidelines are respected and popular but not favorites. this ranking only allows for 5 equal favorites, nothing more. in the first place it only describes popularity.... in the second, it only describes popularity at the highest level! they should use this vote and list no more than the top twenty DJs...unless they change the system! |
very well said! they really need to make some sort of complex voting system cuz this shit is seriously sick. some reallly really talented people out there are sooo down the list that it just makes me sick to my stomach.

popularity contest
First of all, Id like to agree with you-the rankings are ridiculous. Second, I live in Texas(America). NO famous djs come here. ATB and Acosta came once and Gielen was supposed to, but it fell through, so I have no way of hearing new music or seeing live djs other than internet clips and videos. Im forced to watch mtv commercialistic garbage and propaganda that promotes sex, drugs, and POPULARITY.(thats all rap really is-ego and popularity) That is why this ranking system saddens me. The reason why our music and our culture is special is because our music is an art form. Our music promotes love and peace. Trance cleanses the soul of those who listen to it for reasons other than that theyre doing drugs or they "like the beat." Trance is not about popularity or ego and these ranking systems are a popularity contest. We love our music becaue of the way it impacts our lives and uplifts us. We dont care about popularity, what shirt Tiesto wears when hes on the wheels, or how many women Ferry Corsten gets to sleep with on tour. Popularity does not equal greatness. These ranking need to be done in a form of questionarre to measure whether the people voting have ever heard a live set from their "fav dj," whether these people know anything about what makes a good dj, and most importantly, there needs to be a special emphasis on djs who produce as well, because they are the ones who deserve the most credit. Long live electronic music. If you ever read this GIGI, youre in my top 5 as well as many others. PEace!
