It boils down to Locke vs. Smith (I think...high school was sooo long ago...)

Locke= People are self-centred and generally bad.

I think what Highroller is saying isn't too far from what I'm saying... although I wouldn't carry it to that extreme... It is in our very makeup to be competitive, all the way back to knuckle-dragging-man... who had to be the biggest, strongest or at least smartest to have enough to eat and be able to procreate and pass on the genes to ensure the survival of the species... that may be generalising a little, but you get my point... a few thousand years, evolutionally speaking, isn't very long, so we aren't THAT far removed from that way of thinking. We are by nature social creatures, but competition will ALWAYS be part of our makeup.

But don't worry LadyLotus... all is not lost, all we need is enough PLUR for everyone then all will be well!

And for the record I think a good KING is what we need!

What's left to say about the human race is up to your interpretation. In my opinion, when it comes right down to it, we're animals. My life over yours, my survival over yours. You have food on your plate, and I don't? I'm taking it. That is the way we think.

You may think it's a depressing outlook to have on life, but we have our animal instincts and we cannot ignore them.

We can go on and on about equality and the well being of the human race as a whole until we have no air left to talk about it, but we will always look out for #1 in the long run.

Well the truth is, we could sit here all day and point out relevant arguments (be it by example or by notable theorists of the past) and ultimately we wouldn't get anywhere. (pg 21 here we come!)
