Oh the irony. I might be wrong in assuming this, but you don't DJ do you? Don't you think it's a little hypocritical to tell Elevation that he cant make comparisons and voice his opinions on DJ's and their skills because he is a shitty DJ, when you don't actually DJ yourself? What makes it right for you to express your opinion but not him? At least he's trying / learning.

i don't take it as a personal attack, I take his comments as an attack on the history of art.

fair play

cept the art bit.

i used to be like that, i went through a prog phase a while ago back when prog boomed i nthe uk (late 2000ish) and i was like ,what is this? i quickly grew out of it though when realising it is a genre with the depth of a childrens swimming pool. mayeb the people who have been newly exposed to it will realise after a year or so too...

and im sorry, but:

His music wouldn't be good to dance to in a club (for me at least) because it's too slow, but that doesn't make him any less of a DJ (or producer for that matter).

...makes no sence, a dj is for a club, if you want something to listen to at home you get someone to compose something.

true, a dj is for the club, but prog/schulz' music IS danceable, may not be as explosive as energetic trance, but has a lot more musical content and a lot less of the 'plastic' feeling trance sometimes gives.

I guess this is all about opinons, and should be about nothing more. No matter what Dj/producer you are be it PvD, Ferry, Tiesto it would be impossible to keep up the momentum that they have all achieved over the years.
Commenting on anyones DJ skills is just an endless argument and criticism that goes around and around.

If you dont think Markus bangs up in the clubs, you should download any of his live sets, a good one would be:

Markus Schulz live @ Space(12-14-2003) part 2

and yes, choice of DJ's is a mtter of taste. I like my eggs scrambled, you may like them Sunny side up, some people like them with beans.

I've owned turntables for over 5 years and I know how to work them pretty well although I don't consider myself a dj anymore. but I'm first and foremost a musician, and I think I have acquired enough knowledge over years of experience studying music to come to a personal opinion that is backed up by theory and my trained ear.

yeah and it's great for him to be trying/learning. but still....since i think he's pretty tone deaf behind the decks, I laugh at his "rankings", which I think are stupid and ill-conceived. but hey, that's just my opinion. if you don't like it then cry me a river.

Wow, this forum has really become corrupted with a lot of negative people lately. The constant disrespect, and the negativity really needs to stop. I am not just saying this because of what Yale Trance wished of me. There have been other comments about my mixing etc…that have really been negative (still a lot of positive however). This neither encourages new artists nor does it encourage me to continue producing and DJing, which I have been dreaming of since I was a kid. Instead of polluting the forums with nasty comments directed to certain people, why don’t you suggest to him/her something to improve on. I have taken piano and organ my whole life and am classically trained in music and am willing to admit that I am no Pro at mixing right now…if ud like to hear quality mixing from someone with 15 years of experience (Markus Schulz) as opposed to not even 1 of public experience listen to GDJB…in fact I don’t have the time to sit around perfecting my turntable skills playing to only about 100-200 people over an internet stream on Trancesphere (which is a big honor and privilege for me to be a part of). Not only am I doing it because I love the music and hope to improve, but I love bringing music to people…it’s a part of me. If you think my mixing or music is so atrocious then don’t listen to it. In fact, as far as I am concerned, I might just quit mixing and producing all together.
Tiesto isn’t what he used to be to me any more. I used to be a hardcore Tiesto fan, and I used to follow his latest tunes and sets regularly. I didn’t hope to bash tiesto in any way as I have huge respect for him in fact (not that it matters ) I’m actually waiting for the TIC DVD to arrive in the mail. IM sorry if I offended you. BTW tiesto has played clear blue a couple times….which surprises me because tiestos style has been more close to techno now a days….
You really degrade yourself when you bash others like you just have…and comments like those don’t help the industry at all…Who do you think is going to take over the scene when AVB PVD TIESTO and others are long gone?? Most of the new producers and dj’s you see now…are starting out just as the big guys have….and are the next generation….If you would like to see electronic music continue on…have some respect for the people who will make that possible…”if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say it at all “

To be fair, I think your productions are pretty mint and I really like Clear Blue. I can't say the same thing about your mixing, but that's a whole different story.

The thing is....(and this is a constructive criticism coming from a classical musician) I think you don't understand the art of mixing too well. Since you're underage I bet you probably haven't been to much clubs and seen most of these djs live haven't you? Well since 1999 I've seen all of these djs many many times and I'm gonna speak from a live-not an MP3-perspective.

Markus and Armin are talented, sure, but they are the Salieri to Tiesto's Mozart. They are djs that go for the instant atmospheric mix to please the ear at the moment with nice melodic flow, while Tiesto's violent contrasting schemes of counterpoint and rhytmic disbalances are just on a higher level when it comes to live appreciation, especially for a classical musician. Groovypants and I are probably the classical TAs with the most seniority, and we strongly agree on this point. It's not like I take criticisms personal, but sometimes when they are beyond the obvious (technical sloppiness et. al.) I feel the need to respond.

And don't take my "threat" seriously, I won't tell Tiesto a thing when I see him tomorrow. I just travelled a thousand miles this morning to the Caribbean to see Tiesto twice this weekend, so my anxiety got me carried away. I'm sorry about that.

Anyways, good luck and keep up the good work.

This thread is humorous... I for one, like Markus, Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto, and Ferry... Why is there a need to compare them? It's pointless. As for the ridicule about Mike (Elevation). He is an excellent producer, and friend. He has already achieved much, at 16, and is nearly a musical genious. As for mixing, he has 3 or 4 years to perfect that particular part of DJing before he hits the clubs. And also, you contradict yourself quite humorously as well, you say internet DJing is a joke compared to real DJing, and mixing and flow is different on the internet than it is at clubs... Well you're judging Mike on his abillity to mix over the internet, at all hours of the night. Not to mention after a long fatiguing day of school. Even if you're not going to tell Tiesto that he'd put him at #6 in the world, which im sure the man himself wouldn't even care, and probally laugh at you, i still find that a funny comment... Reminds me of a 7 year old in elementry school telling the teacher on a kid for calling them gay. Anyways, enough with the bashing, who cares who's better... Different styles, different atmosphere, different person. Oh yeah, and listen to one of Mike and I's radio show's on trancesphere.com on a saturday night... I can't remember the last time either of us "trainwrecked".

of course i wasn't going to tell tiesto and of course he wouldn't give a shit...don't you people have a sense of humor? it's so easy to fuck with people here.

as for Elevation, we're having a respectful discussion over PMs, so that part of the debate is done.
