Don't cheese around with expensive but unsubstantial horsepower gains. Active Autowerke's Stage 3 Turbo your shit. I know of a guy getting 520+ to the rear wheels in his E36 ///M3.

BTW, just watch out for Vascar and detector unfriendly states like VA and Wash, DC.

do i even need to say anything here... look left.
while i think the new 5 is a little weird looking, the fact that it's got a v10 means it will absolutely kill anything around...byebye e65, rs6, etc. I cant wait to see the hartge version of this bad boy.

basically, M5 = best car ever...the first m5, the '96-'03 model, and the new e60. nuff said.

Amount of cylinders generally means nothing. Look around at the Supra's (IMO overrated but still good cars) the Ford GT, Porsche 911 Turbo, the Hot Rods (8 second passes on street tires with an 8 cylinder)

The fact that it has a V10 really is not important if you are looking for a true HP gain. That just means its heavier. The BMW 850 ci V12, horrible car. These would sell at dealer auctions for dirt cheap because everyone hated working on the engine.

yeah but it's a v10 with over five hundred horspower. thats a significant increase in the hp of the last m5 (394hp from an eight)

I always dreamed of taking an M5 and stuffing a McLaren F1 ///M motor into it.

627hp from the factory 6.1L V12 (or 680 hp in the less restricted LM version)

^^^^^^
Current dream car I'de take it over any BMW M series or not.

S65 AMG Read this before you bash the *65 AMG series of Mercedes.
For those of you that don't want to look heres the HP and TQ specs

quote:
Type:
Twin-Turbo V12

Displacement:
5980 cc

Horsepower:
612 bhp @ ---- rpm

Torque:
738 lb-ft @ 2000 rpm
And it will include paddle shifters. Another thing to take into consideration is the underrating of the HP and TQ specs, the actual should be close to 650 HP and 750 TQ.

getfoul, you have to keep in mind that you are comparing apples to oranges... all of those cars you mentioned are either supercharged or turboed... the m5 with it's v10 will be naturally aspirated. it's going to be a beast just like the current model, and the models before it.

and yes the 8-series was a failure in many people's eyes... but i can't really ever recall an m-model that was a failure. these are enthusiast's cars.

getfoul,

also i heard that mercedes had to take a transmission from their truck division to handle the cl65/s65... those are monsters... just enough horsepower and displacement to get you from gas station to gas station.

Naturally asprated engines are great. I have an E46 m3 and the engine is amazing. So much power at any rpm with no lag. M engines are great.
