Now this is something Asian immigrants are often to blame. Really.
I don't know if that's the same way up there, but here Japanese immigration is quite recent (started around 105 years ago) and the goal of those immigrants was to come here, make money and then get back. There are several nuclea where they live apart from the rest of us (which, ironically also happens when Brazilians go to Japan, heh), although it's not so usual anymore. But the first impact remains. I reckon people sometimes see the CJK-blooded people as exotic and stuff not only because of their different look (which, is roughly speaking, just the narrow eyes) but because of the history of their immigration.
Sincerely, I've got many Asian friends and many times I've heard the word "Gaijin" (outsider) from the older generations (or to racist ones) to anyone who was not Asian. I don't mind (at all) but I reckon it's small things like these that makes integration difficult.
If I go on I shall just repeat myself.
